Special thanks to Mark (arum1966) on this one. He helped me get the colors, in the photo, close to the original painting. Harder than you would think on this one.

Perhaps you are right, or maybe I am, who will tell ?
Thanks for replying, it gave me a chance to gaze at this masterpiece again
How are you coping with comments like these by the way ?
You don't seem to me as an overly egocentric person, which is good
Oh and one more question.. how long have u been into art ? Did it take a long time to achieve this level ?
greetz man, take care

"How am I coping with comments like these?" Of course I enjoy the attention, but don't really feel like I deserve it. I'm really not sure how to handle such high praise, as you have given me. A simple "Thanks" seems too lame, and anything more makes me feel like the egocentric person you mentioned. There are so many painter out there, that are so good, it almost makes me not want to pick up another brush. But an artist has to focus on their own artistic expression, and individuality in order to find the strength to carry on.
I've been drawing and painting since before I could talk. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as fun to me now as it did when I was two. Hahaha I'm much too critical now, of everything I do. Pieces that I'm happy with are fewer, and further between. Although, I haven't painted for six months or more. Maybe it's time again, huh?
Thanks again. Sorry it took me so long the first time around to reply. I haven't really been on here much lately. But I'm starting to make a comeback.

Indeed, focusing on your own intuition and instincts helps alot to go on and do your thing, even if there are others out there that are "better". I'm plagued with this curse aswell, but I do it anyway, I need to, otherwise I become apathic and depressed.
It feeds my spirit, my mind, soul. I need it.
Critical is good, though till what end.. maybe sometimes it will cloud the mind ? Trusting instincts and feelings can set you free I think. If you don't feel like it anymore, it's best to take a break. But then this nagging feeling will re-appear, that you HAVE to make art, mwuhahaha, gotta love it.
Take care man

I think you're absolutely right about being too critical of one's self. It can cloud the mind, and cause a person to pass-up ideas that, if pursued, could lead to masterful works.
And yeah, being an artist is both a blessing and a curse. It can be shut off for periods of time, but I'll be damned if it doesn't come back in the most annoying, nagging way. Oh well, we'll just have to learn to cope, I guess.

I'm having problems aswell with this being critical
I try to be original, authentique, but it's hard..
and I see people getting more love with just copied concepts..

I think a person is either going to be original, or not. Every artist should follow what he/she wants to do, regardless of what anyone thinks. If you are attracted to odd/original things, your work will be original no matter what you work at. Same goes the other way. If you have common taste, and talent to go with it, you will produce works that people can identify with. Either way, you have to be happy with your working methods. Odd and original work may not win you love from people now, but who knows, at some point you might be seen as a visionary.
I live in a medium sized, southern town, with small town values. Country music, church, hunting, and sports rule in this place. None of which I enjoy. You can imagine how out of place I am, as far as art goes, here where I live. Weird thing is, I have almost found myself feeding on negative comments about my work. Kind a makes me feel like I'm on the right track. LOL But then again, I don't ever sell my work either.
I've always wondered if Thomas Kinkade really loves producing boring art, of if he's just a crowd pleaser.
Sorry for another rant.
