Which recesses are you referring to? I don't recall using any ink or washes.... maybe a bit on the gold trims if any.

must be an effect of the flash, then, cause I'm seeing tiny white reflections in the recesses

You mean on the gems and lenses? If that's the case it's just dots of white paint. Otherwise it may be the metallic paint reflecting off the light source.
