Barrel, as in Lock, Stock and Barrel. The three little trick-or-treater's that kidnap Santa Clause in Tim Burtons, Nightmare Before Christmas. This one was a lot of fun to do.

Hi this is really nice! Question: I noticed most of your newer pieces seem to have a colored version and a pencil study version. Do you create 2 seperate pieces, one pencil and the other painted? Or do you make a penciled version, then copy that onto a fresh paper and color that one?
Sorry for the longish question, I was just curious.

Hi Pencil-Stokes
The pencil studies are a completely separate 'work of art' from the painted card. I do them to work out the composition and light and shadow. They are drawn on a grey illustration board. When I'm finished with the drawing, I transfer it (using a graphite transfer paper) to a separate sheet of white illustration board. This gives me a new, clean white surface on which to paint. I do it this way for two reasons. First, I have a fondness for the drawings and want to preserve them and second, an ACEO card is only 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" inches. To take a piece from a blank sheet of paper to a finished painting is a lot of wear and tear for such a tiny little surface.
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks much for the details. I know a lot of other artists do something similar. They'll draw the image out to detail, then scan and print the image out on watercolor paper. Then mount the watercolor paper on masonite or something similar. That way they preserve the original drawing. I never thought of doing the same with aceo cards. Very cool!
