thank you so much for this "step by step" painting. It is awesome.
I have a noob question : the first light brown color which is on the canvas before you start drawing the skull, is it oil or acrylic ?
thanks anyway and good job !

Thank you very much ! The first layer is acrylic indeed.

What type of paint are you using for this? The details on this look great, I like your method, its very detailed but still very artsy and motionful with your paint.

JeffStahl In reply to TheBlu3Giraffe [2012-07-05 23:13:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. It is oil on canvas.

Never used oil before, but I have some, what type of colors do you have? Your page is awesome!! I really like your unique style. Do you use oils for a lot of your art?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JeffStahl In reply to TheBlu3Giraffe [2012-07-06 01:22:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot ! For this skull study I used Lefranc&Bourgeois's yellow ochre, raw sienna, burnt umber, cadmium yellow deep hue, cadmium red light hue, primary blue and titanium white.
I rarely use oils, all my other painted works you can find on my page are digital.

TheBlu3Giraffe In reply to JeffStahl [2012-07-06 01:59:45 +0000 UTC]

They are all very interesting pieces, do you color them from scratch on the computer or take images and alter them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JeffStahl In reply to TheBlu3Giraffe [2012-07-06 02:09:58 +0000 UTC]

All the pieces are digitally painted on a Wacom tablet. The whole process for one caricature can take from 15 to 25 hours, there is no special filter applied, except some custom texturing.

TheBlu3Giraffe In reply to JeffStahl [2012-07-06 02:33:35 +0000 UTC]

They look like oil paintings themselves. C:, It's nice to see such unique styles out there.

I really liked the Rocky one, my whole family are Rocky fanatics.

Freaking Awesome!! I love playing those games, I always thought it would be a great idea if they made an assassins creed game based around Roman times, I think it would bring in a different level of assassination the characters could do, poison. C:.
