Description For a spooky treat, I wanted to track the progression of how vampires have evolved in films from the terrifyingly ratlike Nosferatu to the near-superhero Dracula of this year's Dracula Untold. Vampires have often bounced between comedy and horror, and I tried to represent as many different iterations of this as possible. How did I do? Which movie vampires would you have included?

I personally really like the tv show "The Strain"'s take on vampires. Lower level are evil creatures like 2002, higher are like 2014, and highest is like Nosferatu. They manage to mix all the lore and variations into one cool system

JeffVictor In reply to m4gichat [2014-10-30 06:09:20 +0000 UTC]

I was actually going to do the Strain, but I had to eliminate it once I settled on "movies only". Darn it. I still want to draw that gnarly tongue thing.

Cute and funny! I especially like how you did Lugosi and Lucy!

Aww, c'mon y'all. Don't pick on Blackula and Edward!

I wonder why you left out Interview with the Vampire? You probably just didn't like that film. Remember that film from the 80s, The Hunger, with Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon? That was a good movie. You couldn't depict all of them in just one pic, of course! I always loved vampires, but almost half of these films I've never seen before! This is a great reminder and guide.

Interview with the vampire actually was drawn, but left out since I decided I use Lestat and Louie in my upcoming Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt Evolutions. See? There's a method to my madness!

The Hunger is great btw, you're spot on.

I can name some of them.
1922 Nosferatu
1931 Dracula (Bela Lugosi)
1972 Blacula
1987 Lost Boys
1992 Bram Stoker's Dracula (second worst in my opinion)
1996 Not sure where that's from
2002 Blade 2
2008 Don't know either.
2008 Twilight (first worst in my opinion)
2014 Dracula Untold.

'96 is from dusk till dawn, and 2008 is the Swedish orig. Let the Right One In, later done in English known as Let Me In.

That 1992 vampire looks like they're appalled at my fashion choices (or life choices) and want to eat me for my transgressions.

This list is really interesting! And it looks really interesting too.
I like the effects like 1922's shiny bald head, 1922's ridiculous expression and gore stream from the mouth, and Edward's sparkly sparkly skin.

I think the little vampire in between the Reaper from Blade 2 and Edward is from Let The Right One In, or Let Me In as the English title. As for the movie vampires I would include, I would say either Selene or Victor from the Underworld series.

I'd add "The Fearless Vampire Killers" (1967) and "Interview with the Vampire" from 1996.

Still I can't identify all vampires:
1922: Nosferatu - eine Symphonie des Grauens
1931: Dracula (with Bela Lugosi as the blood-sucking count)
1972: Blackula
1987: ???
1992: Bram Stoker's Dracula (Gary Oldman as Dracula)
1996: From Dusk till Dawn
2002: ???
2008: ???
2008: Twilight (Sparkly Edward - the most scary vampire of them all!)
2014: Dracula untold.
