Description FYI: It took me all the creative energy in me to come up with that title! Appreciate it!

Ok, this was my final project for my "Anatomy for the Artist" course. The assignment was to do a life-size "metaphorical self portrait"... but then she also said we could just "draw whatever we're interested in." I opted for the latter.

So, this drawing is about 7 feet tall, done in charcoal on brown packing paper. I edited it in photoshop to make it blue (which I think looks better). I spent around 10 hours or so on it, and I know it could've came out better if I put more hours in. I'm happy enough with it, though.

The reason I drew a skeleton archer? Well, let's just say I watched a LOT of Lord of the Rings in high school. I credit LotR (the movies) for bringing me from a casual interest in art to a serious interest. Also, if I play any kind of fantasy RPG game, I like playing archer/assassin type characters (for example: Oblivion).

It was a fun project to do. I don't normally put my school work onto DeviantArt, but this one fits. I hope you all like it.

Wow... I would get so annoyed with a 7 foot drawing... I like mine to be no bigger than my desk so I can be lazy and sit. All that shading must have been murder. Awesome job!

Not only did I get a cramp in my wrist, but my shoulder as well. It's surprisingly exhausting.

Is that a photo of it then, or do you have an industrial scanner? XD

I like how the pose is pluid. I Have such problems with that...

Hehe, it's a photo. Came out surprisingly well. It's paintings that are a pain to take pictures of, cuz they often reflect the flash.

And yeah, I try to make my poses and pluid as possible. XP

Any pose liquidation tips that aren't the standard (but nonetheless true) "practice a lot?"

Just FYI: I was poking fun at the fact that you mispelled "fluid". Just wanted to make sure.

If by fluid you mean natural-looking, then yeah I have a few tips. Firstly, always start with a gesture drawing, especially with thumbnail drawings. I didn't go into this life size drawing blindly. If you take life drawing courses, they will teach you how to draw gestures (which essentially are stick figures which express the pose) Secondly, act out the pose yourself in front of a mirror. Make sure you can do it, and it's not uncomfortable.

I'm not naturally good at drawing skeletons, but I had a reference for this. The pose was still my doing, though. Hope this helps.

OIC, I thought you just misspelled it.

I'll have to check that out.

Well that's annoying... you should be able to take your projects home... Weird. I'm glad you like it, thanks.
