Often seen smiling or talking to people, Ruka makes it a point to be social and polite to those around her. With a charismatic aura, she is a smooth talker who tries to befriend everyone. TL;DR: Ruka's mother left, disappearing without a trace. Ruka abandons her dream of becoming a singer due to being reminded of her mother, and learns that faking your smile will make people more comfortable as opposed to expressing grief/genuine emotions.

With her mom being a professional singer, and her dad being a composer, Ruka had always been surrounded by the world of music ever since she was young. Her parents would always sing to her when they got home from work and she loved every second of it. Her dream was to share her voice with the world and become a famous singer, just like her mom. Due to her parents' extravagant jobs, they were never short of money and soon, her room was full of records, albums, and posters of her favorite musical idols.

But soon her parents' passion for the musical arts began to fade along with their happiness. Ruka's mother began to skip work, faking illnesses week after week until she was fired. She spent her time sleeping at home, just taking up space. Her father became increasingly weary and ragged due to having to face the family situation with his wife every time he came home. They began to drift apart, leaving Ruka lonely and isolated in the safe haven that was her room. And one day, her mother just disappeared.

There was no note, no warning, nothing. She was just gone. Ruka was lost and felt abandoned and lonely. But more than anything, she was angry. She couldn't believe that her mother would just leave like that. She couldn't believe that she didn't even have the decency to explain herself. Although Ruka still loved listening to music, she gave up her dream of becoming a singer since it only reminded her of her irresponsible mom.

When she broke the news to her "friends," they sympathized at first, but later grew tired of her constant grief. They told her that she was being annoying for talking about "things that happened in the past already" and said to "move on." In fear of losing her friends too, Ruka began to feign happiness and smiled despite being sad or angry. She learned that, the happier you pretend you are, the more people like you, and she suppressed her true emotions. After all, it was better to have some people around you as opposed to no one.

With that twisted mindset and a pair of new headphones, she became a highschooler.
