Description Can you imagine a water/ground Venusaur doppelganger? Does it look something like this? Cool.

This is, if you would believe it, the oldest concept of my three starters; it's based loosely off of a drawing I did around second or third grade, which is something like 2-4 years before I started making official fakemon.

Our buddy here is of an unknown origin other than my 8 year old imagination. I'm kind of thinking coelacanth-mudskipper-walrus. Who knows. The name is a misspelling of coelacanth and mud.

I want you to know I resprited this one too to make use of the lovely 96x96 canvas. Crappola, now I'm going to have to do the legends. ;_;

I always feel like I'm making the hand fins in the wrong place or too big. And see the Moguryuu-looking hind feet? No, they're flat on the bottom, and yes, I did think of them before you, Sugimori. So there.

In the pokeverses, this guy is extremely sluggish on land, but like a bullet in the water. Hence, it's secondary ability would be swift swim (note: if there are two abilities available, a pokemon has both like in PMD. Dream world abilities are not included.) Its arms aren't good for much other than swimming, and the horns (evolved out of anglers) Are used to smash through logs in the murky freshwater bodies which it lives in. It has both lungs and gills, though its lungs are used much more since the water it lives in has such little oxygen. Scientists predict that eventually the gills will disappear altogether. During the dry seasons, Qualamud stops producing slime and its skin hardens so it can forage effectively on land. The patches of mud on its body vary from individual to individual, though it seems that the older and tougher Qualamud have more mud on them. The inherited stickiness of their slime is thought to also influence the amount of mud a Qualamud will have. They are very territorial, using their tusks to compete for dominance over a particular area. Occasionally, they make their own swamps to live in and raise young.

Pokemon (c) Game Freak, Qualamud and art (c) Me.

I don't see how quala comes from coelacanth, considering coelacanth is pronounced like seel-uh-canth.....

Anyway, I like this! It's cute. :3

Before I knew how to pronounce it, I thought it was Kole-uh-canth.
Cola, Quala- it's some kind of super heavy corruption, I guess. :3

(And thanks for the faves! Much appreciated.)

You know what it resembles to me? Babarwur (Papaueru) from Keitai Denju Telefang. [link]
Good work though.

LOL, I had no idea that such a creature existed. All I knew was that Telefang was bootlegged under Pokemon in America. XD

Yes. As Pokemon Jade and Diamond. In poor translations. Those games are quite good.

I can somewhat imagine that as a Quagsire evo.

Haha, it's WAY too easy for me to see where you're going with that. XD
Looks like I need to do some pre-evos!

i love it, but you put it uses its lungs more because its in the water more than on land and said the gills will probably disapear

Yeah, the water doesn't carry enough dissolved oxygen when it's warm- it's really hard for things to breathe when there's lots of stuff in the water, too. So it uses its lungs and goes to the surface every once and a while like a whale.
