In my headcannon, Holly and Artemis slowly grow closer after the events of the Last Guardian, and Holly finds herself in the difficult position of choosing between her career and joining Artemis on the surface. She chooses to preform a ritual with the help of Artemis, using the human DNA within her blue eye to replace her fairy DNA. It's a painful process that causes her to grow two feet taller, her ears to become rounded. She loses her magic abilities as well. She struggles with whether or not she made the right choice for herself and for the people. Holly is plagued by the feeling that she had betrayed her species, and it takes her quite a while to come to terms with her own decision, with the help of Artemis, who had admitted to, against his own better judgement, loving her deeply.
