Became absolutely infatuated with X-Men First Class. Saw it many times, and this is the result. Each character has a chess piece and a color associated with them, after much debate between myself and a few friends of mine (to whom it's dedicated because you guys were awesome with the suggestions). My only regret is that I didn't get to draw Darwin because he was amazing.
This WILL be available as a print at Otakon this year! All of you X-Men First Class fans, let me know if you're going! Me and at least one of my table mates should be rocking some tie dye groovy Charles shirts on Saturday, if all goes well in making them.

Haha Pawns are very useful though! I made him a pawn more so because he seemed younger than the others and for how they kind of maneuvered him around sometimes (like how Erik shoved him off the satellite dish haha). Never underestimate the power of the pawn! Plus he was great support to other members, and pawns are great on front line support.

That is very true, indeed! I think that's actually what I loved about him in the movie the most - he was okay with just being support.
And you're definitely right about not underestimating the power of the pawn, for it can turn into the mightiest piece once it reaches the other end of the board.

Poor Banshee ends up being the pawn. Kinda makes sense seeing as he got pushed off a window then laughed at for falling off the window then pushed off a satelite then forgotten underwater. Lol. Good job.
Im surprised Erik isn't the queen considering all the fiction between him and charles that first class seems to have brought on XD

Poor him indeed! He does get tugged around a bit, but, then again, pawns ARE still very useful as that first wave of defense.
Oh Erik. I actually had to take a poll for Erik and he became the Rook because they move in such a straight, focused line. Mystique as the Queen since they can take any direction they choose, just like her ability to transform. Ended up putting way too much thought into it all. Ffff.

I love the X-Men Rainbow! (That's a great way of putting it by the way). XD Their expressions are so fitting for each of them and I also love how you paired each one with a corresponding chess piece (also perfect.)

Aaaa thank you! It was really fun trying to capture each of them in their own way, be cohesive, and still convert them into my style. Whitney, Sloan, and Kara helped me with matching up the chess pieces, actually. We had a big discussion on what we all thought fit and the reasons. It was a blast! But thank you honey!

Aww, he's not invaluable! Pawns can kick butt. I remember winning a game by taking a king with a pawn. It was amazing. My favorite moves are often when something like a pawn can take a really hardcore piece down. Plus, if they get to the end of the board, they can be whatever they want (a QUEEN!).
He does get jerked around a lot though (pushed off of satellite dishes...out of windows...). And he's among the youngest (I'm not actually sure his age as compared to the others). Poor thing.

I was SO SO tempted to do that. SO tempted. That was my first thought. But after talking through personalities and purpose of the characters, I rearranged the assignments.
But oh yes, I know why.

Thank you! He was the hardest to assign. I kept bouncing between king, pawn, and rook, but, like you said, that straight-forward strength and stubbornness of his won out.

oh I definitely think he would never be pawn. And in chess, the king is weakest in mobility and is protected by everyone else - the leader that glues everyone together (so great for Charles! he's a definite leader). So yes, rook really suits him. I like Mystique as queen as well - cos the queen is very moveable -- and fits especially in the other movies where she's cold and kickass

It was on the list because he was toyed with and used a lot by Shaw, and this was more in a XMFC view than an overall view, but yeah, in the end it was not the winner. Exactly why Charles was chosen as King and Mystique as Queen! Glad it makes sense to others! I wondered if someone would disagree with the choices.

Cute, I like it. Though their heads seem really large in comparison to their bodies, especially Magneto's and Mystique's.
