Description The sun had been set for a few hours and most of my pride had gone to sleep, but I was restless. Leaving the den, I walked aimlessly through the dark until I heard the faint sound of music. Changing course, I followed the sound until I reached the edge of our territory. From here I could easily hear the far off drumming of a pride in celebration, their joyful sound filling the air.

Lying down in the tall grass, I listened to the music until my mind inevitably drifted back to this evening. Exploring the cave had been awkward, his admission hanging in the air between us and I unable to figure out how I felt about it.

Up until now, I had only thought of Kipendo as a really good friend and thinking of him otherwise felt foreign. DID I love Kipendo? What if I didn’t? How would Kipendo react if his love was unrequited? How much would that hurt him? My feelings were so jumbled right now that I couldn’t make out how I did feel about him. The only thing I was sure of was that, for better or worse, our relationship would change very much from this point on.

My thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of someone approaching and turning my head I discovered it to be the lion responsible for my emotional turmoil right now. Smiling, Kipendo lied down next to me and we sat there for a few moments enjoying the music together.

“It’s a beautiful night for a celebration.” He observed. “I wonder what they’re celebrating.”

“I don’t know either.” I replied. “But whatever it is, I am happy for it. I love listening to the music.”

We listened in silence for a few moments until the musicians smoothly transitioned into a different song; The Jackal and the Hare.

“Oh!” Kipendo exclaimed bounding to his feet. “I love this song! We should dance Uru!”

His mood was very infectious and I soon found myself on my feet. Kipendo positioned himself as the jackal and I took position as the hare, balancing myself on my hindquarters. We waited like this for a few moments until the music reached the correct moment to start, then Kipendo lunged.

I led him on a merry chase through the dance steps, running around in circles and leaping through the air. In the joy of the moment, I finally felt clarity. Dancing with him felt so natural, so right, that when I looked back on the times we’ve shared and I wondered how I could have been so blind. HOW? It had been there all along, and I’ve just now come to realize how I felt.

The feeling was so elating that I couldn’t help but laugh as Kipendo continued to chase me. The song was coming to its close and the dance ended as it always does with my throat bared to Kipendo; the jackal finally catching the hare. We remained like that as we caught our breath, and before he could say a word about the dance, I told him five little words I was bursting to share with him.

“I love you too, Kipendo…”

----------

So now we see how much of a goopy romantic I am. XD Uru realizes that she has loved Kipendo for a long time now, she just didn’t realize that it was love she was feeling and not just friendship. And so she can finally return the sentiment to Kipendo and they shall live happily ever after…until her blissful little world goes up in blue flame. >.> Sad tragic life she has after that…But anyway! I just really loved the idea of adding the dance in! Not only is the dance itself kinda romantic in a way (At least in my mind XD), but it gives when she dances in Echoes a much deeper meaning for her. I mean, it would be hard enough for her to dance it with Gonjwa if it was a dance she’s only danced with Kip, but now add the fact that it was what they danced when she first discovered and then admitted her feelings for him? Yeah, that makes it a lot harder for her and gives the fact that she danced it anyway more meaning. Sure, the fact the he took position as the hare surprise and intrigue her, but she coulda still stopped herself if she wanted. This moment really says a lot about her character development. But anyway, I’m rambling. XD I hope you enjoyed it! I would have considered making a comic version, but it would have turned out to be more pages then I could possibly finish in the time given for the contest. Plus, Rinja said she MIGHT comicfy our entry if she likes it enough and wants to make it canon to her ‘verse. XD Making it a comic myself would kinda kill any reason for her to comicfy it herself if I get lucky enough to win. X3
