Looks like dA has a new PDF viewer built-in - I can actually view it in-page without downloading! Pretty sweet, and I may try this out with some tutorials I've been thinking of writing. Maybe the people who weren't seeing anything on the page caught dA just as they made the changeover.
Cannot fault you for the layout. Only problem I'm seeing is that the colours seem to have been reduced, resulting in some banding and odd pixellation. It appears to be a fault of the way that dA is displaying it in-page - when I open the PDF in a separate tab in Google Chrome, the colours are fine. I will see if I can raise this somewhere in #devBUG - in-page PDF viewing ain't much good if it doesn't reproduce the pages properly.

Yeah it does look pretty pixelated in the preview but is pretty clean in the actual PDF file thanks for the comment and for raising this issue with devbug. If you do end up making something with this tut I'd love to see it

opps, thanks Bob.... not sure why the green boxes???? hummm.... maybe its the browser???? I did it on Google Docs, (since I don't own word for my mac and a PS file would have been huge) so there's a little black box with an arrow in the right corner that you can click and it should open it up in google docs.
Yeah... Im a pain in the butt... and it's not the most visually appealing tut, but it is my first

Guess what. it worked today (both ways). You sure used a lot of layers and clipping masks. One thing that does not make sense though is when you say to create a new layer, make it screen, open quickmask, open cloud filter, close quickmask to get the marching ants (so far so good), but then with your large soft brush (will very low flow) start clicking. It doesn't matter that you went through thecloud stuff to get the ants, because on a transparent layer, those marching ants mean absolutely nothing (for them to mean anything they must be over selected pixels = which would mean selecting another layer with something on it).
All in all a good tutorial, but you should go back and proofread it. Fast readers may wonder what you mean by: "Now make a new layer for each part of the bosy you are working on" (ha).
Oh, and the links only work on the one using that small box (google docs).

Actually, the marching ants do show up on an empty layer On a blank layer if you enter quick mask mode, follow the steps, the marching ants will show up. Thats how I do all my fog so I am certain of this
Actually I think SteveRS might have taught me this trick
I think Im going to redo it in PS anyways... make it look prettier... so I will definitely proof read it again... I did do it really fast the first time

MsgtBob In reply to JennLaa [2011-10-15 01:45:56 +0000 UTC]
I know the marching ants show up. The point is they show up on a transparent layer, so they do nothing. When they show up on a layer with something on it, they restrict what you do to within the ants (so you can't color ouside the lines, so to speak). Does this make more sense than how I stated it before? If not - sorry!

JennLaa In reply to MsgtBob [2011-10-15 01:57:16 +0000 UTC]
You could very well be right about that - but doing this through quick mask and rendered clouds the marching ant marching ants end up being selections with a feather added. So yes it does go outside of the lines but the opacity is lower because of the difference clouds. If you painted in the whole page with100% opacity, or even just filled the layer. It would end up looking like the difference clouds, not a solid color. It gives you a very cloudy look with half the effort. Please do try this... It really does work the reason I start with a lower opacity brush to begin with is so I can built color upon color, but it works just as good at 100% opacity, which is probably the easiest if you want a quick simple one color fog.

You are right, it works. Tried full opacity with one click to cover the screen just to see. Then I clicked a few more times, and sure enough, though the color got darker, it did retain the cloud difference. Thanks! Cool!
