Another fur practice [= I made this picture in grey scale mode and draw over it because i don't know how to "fur" characters and how to get it look right when crossing over the colours. I've had this fur shading style in mind for a while just not go around to trying it out. Feel free to critique and give me tips [= I took on board previous tips [from what i remembered] in this picture ^^ and I do like it alot better than  the last but~ i did spend a little~ longer than i planned to drawing this... *cough*18hrs*cough*  but most of ti was restarting and redoing shit and trial and error XD

I wanted more fur in the face as i know it's lacking, but i struggled to make ti looks natural and not over do it nad to blend the fur with the muzzle and stuff, so if you have and idea for that i'd appreciate it ^^ the same technique can be used to the legs as well i'd imagine. This was also the shading style i tried and the flesh-tail ref i posted, at which point i learnt that i had to do it grey scale to get it to work properly.

haha the lineless was a pain in the arse XD but if you dont do furdetail in lineless drawings the shading doesn't look right. because the shading is what give the ilusion of lines im about to stream btw XD just letting you know

It looks great! I love the shading you added under the chin, it's the perfect colour. You're getting so much better at painting fur, and I can see that you obviously put a lot of time into this. Just keep practising. Eventually, it will start to feel more natural and it'll only take a few hours to paint something like this. If I can offer a suggestion, using a larger brush to add clumps of fur as a base and then adding lighting with smaller detail brushes helps to build up the appearance of thick fur. When it comes to the face and legs, I usually use a blender brush to soften the edges so that any markings appear to look more natural, but I always make sure the brush strokes are in the direction of the fur. This is a beautiful piece, I'm excited to see what sort of progress you'll make next time!

thank you ^^ really? i wasn't too font of that part XD it kept messing up, but yay you like it XD yeah i keep testing ideas i have and watching people livestream drawing fur helps as well XD haha yeah XD a redid the fact a fair few times, originally it was going to be a speedpainty style but im a stickler for details XD yep ^^ that's the plan! i used to have to lineart in like 5hrs now i can do it in like 2 [= so one day it wont take a decade! haha XD yeah i was going to experiment with that the problem im having is like because it's all on one layer [this was is about 6 for the shading ] it's hard to make the clumps look less stocky after you've drawn something over it and stuff. that's the problem, i found myself redoing stuff over an d over when in an attempt to smooth it better. This might be because when i use a thick brush and draw clumps of fur the end isn't pointed at the end, so i have to point in manually or just use a small brush the whole time, thisch woud also explain why ti takes ages for me to draw as well. blender brush? do you mean a feathered brush? i found that ti was too sharsh, like i can't not draw fur on the muzzle of the character because it lookse like a neard, but i can't do the rest of the fact and just leave it so i just decided to leave the whole face XD yeah i had a layer with the fur direction on as a little guide to myself XD thank you ^^ haha we shall see! XD im focusing on headshot at the moment, i'll try full bodies once i get the short to long fur down right

I'm not sure what the photoshop equivalent of a blender brush is XP It's just a brush that sort of mixes colours together so that they look smoother I guess. Maybe a smear or a smudge tool? I don't know.

yeah there's isn't such a  brush there is in sai, but i dont like sai XD I used the smudge tool a little bit on this to smooth the edges so it wasn't so harsh

D: I couldn't survive without a blender brush. I guess a smudge tool isn't too bad though.

it does a different thing XD it doesn't blend two colours by creating other colours that fit type thing, it just smudges it? like moves it and makes it blur kinda XD
