Description
As a female, I am often interested in the placement of women in society, especially in today’s world where we are far more open about our sexuality. Popular TV show’s like “Sex in the City” show liberated women that are continually binding themselves in tight shirts, short skirts, and ankle strap stiletto heels. Despite the fact that we are liberated, we consciously choose this binding clothing to attract the opposite sex. This contradictory behaviour just puts us back in a submissive position in life. I used fishnet pantyhose to make this reference in my image. Fishnets are definitely a sex symbol as well as a symbol for entrapment. The net confines her legs which are composed in a somewhat tangled position. The buckled ankle straps on the shoes serve as another binding element in the photograph. The woman’s individuality and personality in the picture is completely unimportant illustrated by the absence of her face.Related content

Interesting visual interpretation. The message is subtle and would be easily misinterpreted by onlookers attracted at the superficial level. A secondary message might be the irony that, having attracted a partner, she finds she is still confined to portraying this image to continue to hold on to the man.

Very beautiful pic! b&w was a great way to go for this pic. I love the positioning of the legs and get what you're trying to say here. But wow you sure have sexy legs!

The problem with freedom is that sometimes it isn't. Fishnets confine, but also accentuate leaving one exposed but also bound.

i don't see how dressing a certain way is contradictory to being "liberated" or how it puts you back into a submissive position.

It is not necessarily contridictory. I was merely illustrating the contridictions the MEDIA presents. Your intepretation of "liberal" is up to you.

Thanks for your comment! Yeah, I have definitely been thinking about media influences lately. Sometimes I kind of embrace it and hate it at the same time.

hate it, love it... theres nothing we can do about it, unfortunatly, and i think that we cant help ourselves being influenced, even if we think that we dont want to, we cant help it, its been like that for so long that we dont even realise it sometimes, its been drilled into us for so long...

Beautifull composition. Shew! finally someone with an artist statement or comment on their work. I thank you for that.

really good thinking, but it could be better with a little "zoom out". (left corner on the upside bothered me)

I actually took one like that, but I preffered this one. As an asthetic choice, I like to break the picture plane on at least two sides of the frame when I am photographing a subject. I wanted it to definitely cut off at the bottom, and if I let the rest of the image float in the frame without toaching any additional sides it feels a bit unbalanced.
