Description The Rokh-class transport- named after a giant mythical bird capable of eating elephants, continuing the mythical-bird motif of the line- is the big brother to the Phoenix light Freetrader. While still classed as a light Freetrader- coming it at 135 meters (425’) in length- the Rokh has the cargo capacity of some smaller Mediums. She has a cargo capacity of one million cubic feet of cargo in a 250’ long by 50’ wide by 80’ tall main bay, which is capable of being divided up into four 20’ tall decks using extendable modular floor panels.
As with the Phoenix, the bulk of the main hull is comprised of cargo space, with high-class crew and passenger quarters divided up between three decks in the front third of the main hull. The “hump” on the back contains the passenger quarters, as well as the docking bay lock for a Sylph-class jump shuttle. Forward of the passenger quarters and shuttle lock is the galley, which connects to the dining room/entertainment/observation lounge with dorsal “skylight” viewports. The mid-deck contains the infirmary, armoury, and secured vaults, as well as the interconnecting hallway between the cargo bay and the bridge.
The “neck” is split into two decks, with crew quarters below the mid-deck, accessed by lift-shaft doorways. The mid-deck itself contains the corridor to the bridge, flanked by open hydroponics gardens for both morale and life support. The bridge module of the Rokh- unlike its smaller sibling the Phoenix- has a two level command deck, with the captain’s chair in a promenade jutting out over the gunnery, ENWO and navigation stations below. This gives it the feel of a larger starship, making the bridge deceptive in appearance.
As with the Phoenix, engineering and power plants are located in the wings, with the same auto-eject system for the antimatter reactors should they become damaged. Four single-core gravitic engines in the wing give the Rokh maneuverability rivaling the Phoenix, and six dual-core gravitic drives give her phenomenal thrust and power, able to pull 3 AU/hour acceleration. Due to the Rokh’s relatively small size, she can reach her top speed of .8 C in under two hours of steady acceleration.
Speed and maneuverability aren’t the Rokh’s only virtues. Like the Phoenix, she is VERY well-armed, though likewise thin-skinned compared to privateer vessels or warships. The Rokh kicks the potency of its offensive capability up a notch, increasing turret numbers. She sports two dual medium APPC turrets dorsal, two dual light APPC turrets ventral, and two dual light AP lancer ball turrets, one port and one starboard. Spinals are deadly, hands-down. The Rokh is the only Freetrader to mount cutting-edge anti-proton weaponry in such potency, mounting an over-under heavy AP lancer and heavy APPC in the outrigger nacelles.
Armour is at the upper-end of light Freetrader range, but still within it, preventing the Rokh from being re-classed as a privateer (though critics have pointed out that the mounting of restricted heavy spinals should have done so regardless of the armour, neither PMSC nor Peregrine Aerospace operate in nations prone to give a damn.) The reputed close-ties to the Ahrugan Tribal Confederation that PMSC has lend some analysts to speculate that these vessels represent a back-door increase in civilian transport combat efficacy that has so often been pushed by the Ahruga on the council floor of the Terran Alliance.
Other nations- particularly those antagonist to the Ahruga such as the European Union and Persian Republic, and those who delight in regulation and tightfisted control over peoples’ lives such as the North American Union- have steadfastly blocked Ahrugan, Freeman and Australian efforts to loosen of the IATR treaty to allow for more heavily-armed civilian vessels. Despite arguments citing the increased threats from Orion Imperial aggression, Khurian and Kraegarym raids in the Kalindra Corridor, Byntai, Serog and Bythrani raids in the Tarsus Corridor, and the expansionism of the Naradi Empire, the Old Guard of the Alliance do not accept the premise that the Colonial Territories are growing more dangerous.
As a result, the Ahruga- in their typical bullheaded warrior-poet idealistic manner- have simply ignored the roadblocks of the other nations of the Alliance and began producing heavily-armed vessels through various joint ventures. None have come close to this brazen of a violation of the IATR treaty, however. Privateers, dropships, advanced warships, etc. have been the thumb-in-the-eye to the Council, but these new vessels coming from Peregrine Aerospace/PMSC may well be an escalation of the Ahrugan defiance. For their part, the Freemen and Aussies turn a blind eye to the violations, and the Andali Confederation allows these ships into their territory provided they are captained by an Andali Freetrader in good standing.

Does it have a launch bay on top of it?

Well, its not so much a launch bay, as its a parking spot with a matching airlock. Mag locks in the hull keep it in place, and the shuttle shown has a rear facing door so its a perfect fit.
