ahhh... such a traquil thing to do, just outside a massive city. Nice contrast like you said. And a lovely shot. It would make a cool postcard for sydney I think.

there is/was one just outside the canberra centre, on the block that has centerpoint, but on the street.
There all over the place in sydney and melbourne. You must have lived a sheltered life.

Okay, here's the real crit
composition: as Borat would say, "ees verry niiice"". Good positioning of fisherman against sky and buildins so that each has their own space. might be better if you'd been a touch more to the right so that you got him covering the gap between the two buildings that sits under the reel, but that's about it. wait, it's not you might want to clone out the fishing line where it crosses the buildings, as it's distracting an unecessary.
colours: while the silhouette works well, there's an unfortunate amount of haze in the air and this kills some of the colours that would have been there. nice colour difference between the sea blue and sky blue though.
technical. I have to say, this seems a touch overexposed to me. I have a tendency to underexpose mine, but there is so much burn in the waves that any detail there has been lost. It'd be rad if you could have made an HDR image to capture this, but unfortunately that's not really possible (from what I've read) with moving things like water. This may be solved by moving more to the right as well, but I'm not sure. were you using a polarising filter for this?
Overall: This is an excellent shot, and while most of what I said was negative (so that you know what I think could be changed) it's a great protrayal of one of the most boring pastimes ever. Well done.

I'm thinking that the Sydney opera house in the bottome right (combined with the fact that I knew you'd been in sydney because I read your journals) kinda gives the location away.
Excellent shot, real crit coming soon.

Awesome shot! Have to admit my favorite part is the sky in this shot which adds well to the meaning of this shot, it looks smogy near the city and clear further out

Jer-Trow In reply to Balen13 [2007-01-24 10:55:32 +0000 UTC]
yeah, it resulted in reallly uncontrasty shots!! and rather boring and un-appealing sunset shots... i think it is all up from victoria.. if u look to the horizon any time of the day here in canberra, u can see that the sky is white.. not blue
thanks dude

lol you have a point, however here in E'ville there are a lot of good fishing spots off to the side of bridges, overpasses and small creeks leading into the Ohio river, i wish it was warm enough to fish here! lucky guy

haha, in Canberra there isn't any "good" fishing.. just fishing into the lake where there is loads of a fish (that i cant remember the name of ) that is a pest and is shite to eat!
