Description I tried to work on it again, I hope It's better this time.

Melting

The look in those eyes
Drains all of the lawyer's jargon
Bifurcation, ex tempore hearings
Perceptual murmurings and psychological evaluations
The clucking diagnoses complete with condescension
Into nothing.
The muffled plea, watery
"Don't make me go"
From deep inside the closet -
Thin walls, shallow darkness
Powerless to keep a nightmare away.
The tiny fogged-up glasses
(Witnessing far too much for only seven)
Cloaking those damned greyish
Been to hell and back but still a baby
Eyes…

It's at that moment
I know
I would kill.

Great job with the melting affects! It looks really fantastic.
As for your poem, I'm reminded of a child, one being torn from home and family, from love, to some unknown place that he's only heard of in fairy tales. I like it.

Jeri, this is just stunning. Your work continues to amaze me. The placement of the lighting in this image really gives it a 3D look, and the play of shadows is really great. VERY powerful in grayscale. I don't know how it works in color, but I believe grayscale is the way to go on this one. Fantastic image. Great job!

Wonderful idea, Jeri--and nicely executed!

I'm going to go against the general opinion here...and say that I DO think the model's expression is perfect for the subject. The poem--seems to be dealing with loss of custody of a child...so for me, this image is of a father, trying to hold his world together, when he loses custody of his child...and the look of despair is perfect. There's really not a lot of "fight" left in him--and this is the tail-end of a primeval scream of his loss and despair, and his soul begins to melt away...

(I do agree that the melting could be handled a little better--it's not quite consistent--but you've already said that you have some other ideas about how to handle it...so there's no need to go into further detail.)

The one thing that really DOES seem "off" to me--is the warmer tones of the man's skin..and the greenish tones, of the melted stuff. Maybe if you made the transition a little more gradual it would seem more organic? I'm not sure...something just isn't quite up to your usual standards, there..

Everything else though--is FAB!!! (The lighting is SUPERB!!! I can easily imagine it was a bear, trying to light it--but it's lovely and even and everything I'd expect from you! )

Can't wait to see what else you do with this series!

thanks alot au! i really value everyone's point of view and opinion. for me, i personally like this expressions. and i love the way you gave meaning to it. the colour is just easy to handle. i will just convert it to grayscale later on and everything will be allright.
adn i would tell you...it's really a challenge for me to photograph the silver on his body. if you really dont have control on your ligthing you can't get the textured silver for sure everything will be flat.
hayyyyy, anyway, merci beaucoup!

Athansor In reply to jerishoots [2005-04-26 19:44:54 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you like his expression--because I really think you captured it perfectly--it's like a "between" feelings moment--when he's switching from one emotion to the next...and I think the image is stronger, because of it. Let's face it--you've got good instincts!

And you're right--the color problem could be addressed by converting to greyscale...but I kind of like the warm tone, melting into the coolness...just think the transition could be a little smoother is all...then again--maybe you're right--and it WOULD be better if it were all the same--hard to say!

You really must be proud of how well this turned out, considering all the difficulties with lighting! I know I would be, if it were mine! What can I say? You ROCK, my friend--and it's ALWAYS a pleasure, seeing what new things you're trying!!!

wow a lot of hard work put on this shot! you deserve the props for that I liked how you perceived this image facial expression could have been better if the actor really felt the scene, for me he lacked the expression of true death. I loved the melting effect you made, like a candle heated on high temperature, although the melt needs more work overall, its high impact.

Its really a nice interpretation...totally something to look forward. Ideas with not just an image but also words o describe it. The photo is really excellent as we all know that you are a master when it comes to photography. It could have been a perpect as better as it now as if the facial expression of the man is felt by the viewer. "Don't let go" is a very powerful words interpret. WE need to feel it more. More intensity. More exageration so that the views can feel it. The image will be even perpect if it speaks and overshadowed the title. Overall the image is really an eye candy. Love to see more of this kind of stuff...more expression especially when it comes from the heart!!! More power and look forward for the next image. Keep it up!!!

Great image.....Where the hell do you find such a variety of inspiration ?

I tend to see a man climbing up rather than letting go. I would rather call it "extrication from daily life".

Anyway, it is striking and powerful. Bravo....
