You're taking commissions for automated processes and other people's work? Seriously?

Otherwise for puppets all they're really paying for you to make is probably a mane or tail, which it's apparent that you're not quite skilled in making those yet, considering the lack of proper front and 3Q manes in your example.

In this type of mane is front view very hard - look at puppet of Spitfire.

Recoloring in flash can be done very quickly with Ctrl F, and bitmap to vector conversions can be done in Illustrator with a single process. That said, you're still using and selling other people's assets which is outright wrong--it'd be different if you weren't recoloring Double Rainboom puppets and instead were using your own, or were offering to vector things from scratch, but it's clear that's not what you're doing.

Many people do not know how to vectorize pictures and bitmap to vector feature is very bad. And it is not only about recoloring and creating mane and tail - it is also about editing nose and mouth because puppets from Double Rainboom have only 2 or 3 different types of mouth.

DR Puppets have like 28 Β orΒ 53 Mouths

They have 28 or 53 POSITIONS of mouth.
I meant 2 or 3 SHAPES of mouth - 1 shape for mares, 1 for stallions and I think that fillies have another shape.

Uhhuh. Yeah, no.
You're talking to the head animator of SFS.Β I can safely say that anything you could do most other animators could do in about 3 minutes, and I can tell where you're bullshitting. That said you're still charging people for giving them someone else's work.
And as I pointed out, even if parts were missing, you don't have the vectoring ability yet to make the missing components. It's pretty clear what methods you're using to do this. I just feel bad for anyone who's foolish enough to actually pay you for it.

3 minutes? Really? Something like changing mouth and nose for 30 frames per pose is not for 3 minutes.

And just so we're clear, the issue I take with you doing this is you're reselling other peoples' work.
I wouldn't've commenting if you were using your own puppets built from scratch, not just recolored DR puppets. Hell I still would've told you about Ctrl F as it would've helped expedite your process. However, recoloring someone else's work and maybe adding on an additional 3-5% really isn't something you should be doing.

Yes, 3 minutes. Probably more like 30 seconds. As I said it can be done instantaneously. Try clicking 'Ctrl F' in Flash, and select 'color'.

Recoloring really take only few minutes but I do much more. I create mane, tail and if needed I also create new shape of nose and mouth (30 frames for each pose is A LOT of work).

Yes, you do create mane and tail but that is an extremly easy process, depends on your vectoring skill, but there doesn't seem to be any puppet's where you modified the mouth.
$4 is a LOT for just a digital thing that you con do yourself. The commisions on my profile (which I've taken down due to business) were ten points, or 10 cents. I wanted to lower the price but deviantArt wouldn't accept it. I suggest you to lower the price until you will get better at puppetery stuff.

I have some puppets where I modified mouth but I did not publish them because they are for animated series which was not released yet. I would create puppets for free but I do not have much time - I am working on 3 animation projects + I have some other projects (programming, vectoring, ...).

Ah, I see I'm not the only one that has more projects.
Also, I hope you've learned about the Ctrl+F thing. It can really take less than a minute to color a pony that way.

Yes, I know about Ctrl+F a long time.

I don't know about 3 minutes (redrawing hair can be pretty tough), but a Flash puppet that basic would be a rather simple matter. For someone new to Flash, though, who has no experience with this process, $4 is low enough that it could be reasonable. They're not high quality puppets, but they work nicely enough for a simple animation.
I'll forgo the fan squeal for now, but lead animator for SFS?! Have you guys used modified DR ones, or did you design your own from scratch? (I assume the later, but messing with theirs is just so much easier.) Been working on trying to make a "filly" puppet based on the open source models, but you guys have it nailed.

Zedrin In reply to dancressman [2013-12-11 09:29:11 +0000 UTC]
We designed our own from scratch. Personally I'm not too fond of the DR sets, just for a few issues with the eyes/face, and the back legs in front position. That said, it's better to have your own anyway, regardless of convenience.
Wasn't too hard. We've got super skilled vector artists to help build components, and I had designed some of the earliest Luna and Celestia rigs in the fandom (of course I don't distribute them, but still).

Personally, I'm pretty terrible at drawing, so I don't think I'd be able to do my own from scratch. Could do vector tracing, but I don't really have the time for it. But I do have issues with the DR back legs and their set of mouths -- way too limited and a lot of the time, just don't work well. So while I've been modifying my own set that I'll give out someday when I'm happier with it, they do work for folks who don't have a team to help out.
Well, what you have works great! Thanks for the response.

I wouldn't say "from Pony Creator is best". It has awful, pre made manes. If the artist can't draw the pony in the style of the show, they can commission someone like me, who can.
Anyhow, I do not have Paypal, so I won't be able to comission a puppet from you.

I wrote "from Pony Creator is best" because many people can not draw and this is best alternative for them. And yes - give it to draw someone else is also good idea.
That is pity you do not have PayPal. There is another way - transfer to bank account but I do not like it (there are big fees and it take long time to transfer).
