Great capture of a common urban activity. Very rugged and raw. This shot makes you think about the lives of each person who had touched that dice. Each person who had gambled not only with money, but with their exsistence on this earth as well.

Thanks so much! when I see things like this, I try to conjure up the history - or the events that led to the dice being discarded... I'm keen on the gritty/seedy side of things..

it's images like this that makes you wish that something like a dice could talk and tell you a story. This makes a real statement, i love it.

Damn Jerry, it's been a long time since I've seen anything by you (my fault I know), but I'm glad I came back to see this photo. There is not one thing I would change on it to be completely and utterly honest with you, because it's perfect. Well.. maybe not perfect but as close to it as you ever want to be.

Such a beautiful medium between the white of the die, and the dirty grit around it. Kind of like The Beauty and The Beast or something, because it's such a huge contrast.

Man... I'm glad I didn't miss this. Let's just leave it at that

Thanks for the comment friend,

I kind of saw the white as bone, like how a corpse would rot and leave a bleached skeleton or whatever.

Glad you were able to stop by. I haven't had the time to very social on DA lately either, know what you mean. and take care !

newklear In reply to jerryhazard [2004-05-04 00:13:12 +0000 UTC]

No problems mate, it's been far too long between comments from my end

Now that I look at it, I can see the contrast you've drawn quite clearly. Also, it would work well with the title to have such a subject matter as that, perhaps even better than the comparison I drew myself. Either way, it's a wonderful thing to find in such a place at any rate

I've been being too social, yet not social enough in the places I want to be. Since I got the ` I've been run off my feet with comments and shit, so I'm just catching up now. Alas, take care mate! easy, fo sho.

This is just gorgeous. I love all the earthy colours and the roughness of all the surfaces. You've composed it really well, it just looks so intriguing. Something that should look simple but has huge amounts of interest and rough beauty.

great textures and attention to the decay of the subject. it's great that you noticed such a small thing, even though it's isolated, some may have missed it while shooting.

Found objects are fantastic. You should send that photo into Found Magazine--and concoct some far-fetched story about how it ended up in your alleyway.

There's an element of creepiness and mystery about found objects. Yessah. I congratulate you on the find more than the photo, as it is nothing special in particular. But when you add the information that the dice is NOT yours and you don't know whose it was...that's where the true intrigue lies.

Yessah.

I normally dont like photography like this because the photographer takes a pic of a chair with a broken leg and reads the downfall of modern society into it, but this has a quaint sadness about it.

Uhh that would have to be a really small finger, maybe from a toy? Or we're talking huge dice over here , either way i like it very much

Intensely philosophical, wonderfully taken…and is that a finger? That rock looks like a finger, or is it? I’ll pretend it’s a finger because I like it that way. Congrats ^^
