Description Turn off the lights Kasia >:U
Well not one of my best, and I think I could have done better, but I've tinkered with this long enough.
These chillax doodles are fun! It's particularly fulfilling doing doodle-y backgrounds for the characters to live in.

The different array of lighting- from gradual softening to brightly glaring- is eye-dazzling!

How do you create the varying brightness of light in your works? It amazes me to no end!

(And Kasia, don't forget to turn off the lights at closing time! )

Thanks! I still think I could have fixed the way the lighting worked here better, but I didn't want to work on it any longer XP

I'd say I have thumbnailing to thank for that! A lot of the works I completed during the summer were the result of planning several alternate ideas and deciding which was the most effective. When I'm planning the thumbnails I keep an eye out for staging and lighting so that I won't run into the problem when I paint

(her friend will remind her soon enough)

I think we all desire to improve on a certain aspect of a work, but sometimes we need to go to the next and there, we can work and improve on the certain aspect in a new piece.

Ah, thanks! I shall have to try thumbnailing with my art! Thank you for the explanation and advice!
(Excellent! Mustn't leave the lights on!)

Did you post this one on tumblr? Feels like I missed so much awesome drawings! ;; (Should log on DA more often! ) Looking wonderful! The setting and colors are great!

Sometimes I post thumbnails/process for pieces like these on tumblr. I haven't posted the thumbnails for this one though hmmm

Thanks! I think I could have pushed the colors more, but I'm happy with how the setting turned out C:

Your backgrounds never cease to amaze! I love the warm, soft glow of this particular piece, and how the imagery seems to tell a story all by itself. :3

I'm glad the softness managed to look appealing

Ooh thanks! Story-telling is something I aim for a lot!

NNNGGHHH, Kasia may not be turning off the lights and therefore it may seem strange but darn this picture just looks so wonderful!!
The colours you choose catch the eye sooo quickly, and you got so right which places to fill with light and which should be in complete darkness.
I would have added a little bit of fog in the horizon so you cannot really see if there are some movements in the background and whatnot, but you know me, I'm kind of crazy with particles so my advice doesn't make me right. I mean it, this picture is wonderful just how it is!!

I WANT AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK WITH ALL YOUR CHARACTERSSSSNNNGHHHHH

Haha thank you Julio!

Kasia is warding off the darkness with the innocence of candy store light so that Jim does not get eaten by dark, other worldly beings :]

Ooh I think you've got a point with the fog idea actually. One of the many mental battles I had with this piece was whether to add detail to the buildings in the back or toΒ simplify/blurΒ them out since they're further away. The fog would justify the blurring more, though it may make the scene kind of ominous...hmm :I gotta think about it.

HUSSHH I SHANT LAY WASTE TO TREES FOR MY DRAWINGS

THAT THING YOU POSTED ON TUMBLR THOUGH NGHH THE NIGHTMARES I WILL HAVE

LIKE IS THAT A CHINCHILLA RAT THING GOSH

I find city scenes really challenging...here you are just doodling them, lol. I really like the warm lights vs dark night going on here.Β

Hehe thanks! It's really just 1-point perspective stuff. I've been trying to stay out of my comfort zone lately in hopes that doing so would somehow expand it

That's what I was aiming for with the lighting! Yay 8D

Dat chiaroscuro. Β¦>>>

Must say, I'm really enjoying this old-timey/enchanting little city that's been serving as the grounds for your cast. And yes, I <3 that candy store most-est.

Oh you :>

Thanks so much! It's weird that I don't really think about making the situation enchanting or magical. It's something the characters bring to the scene by just being there somehow

it's really great with atmoshpere!!!! *o* love the lights Β and you should define a bit more the houses in the back because i think it would be amazing *o*and addΒ cobblestones on the pavment Β in a simple graphic way ! it's awesome how you can depict a situation!!! *o*

Oh heavens thank you so much *__*

Thanks so much for the critique too! You're definitely right about the pavement cobblestones and the houses in the back; this piece was meant to be simple but got more detailed in certain areas the longer I worked on it. It would be a lot more consistent if I added more simple graphic details
