Description Every year I make my dad a new key chain for his birthday. This year I designed a sterling silver & agate keychain for him(:

This was made with a Lake Superior agate and a hand engraved sterling silver tag. Mark did almost all of the fabrication on this.....including the hand engraving work and shaping, polishing and drilling the hole in the agate.

Beautiful agate. Lake Superior really does have some nice stones in it. Too bad the water is always so cold.

Thanks for the comment!
**Mark and I went out to a small creek last week and dug through some piles of rocks on the shore. He found a gorgeous little Laker in the same little rocky area a few feet from the creek that he's found Lakers in the past. They can be found in many areas throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.... you just have to have the patience to hunt and dig(:

It's wonderful that you made this for your dad. I have a soft spot in my heart for "lakers" and this is a nice example of the red version of this agate. I do hope he will use this one!

Thanks Elly(:

I've tried to convince my dad to wear a ring, cuff links or some other form of men's jewelry.... but he's just not the jewelry wearing type. The other key chains I've made him are displayed on his mantle... he said they were too pretty to use! I've always made him very fancy key chains in the past.... pierced designs with overlay and unpractical stones like opal. Mark wanted to help me make him a key chain that would be strong enough and practical enough that my dad would actually consider USING it. We chose a nice Lake Superior agate from some rough we purchased recently at a local show..... you can't much tougher than that stutff! We'll see if this one ends up on his mantle with the rest... I hope not.

This agate wanted to be a keychain. The hole was already in the stone, all I had to do was enlarge it a little after I cut and polished it This is a stone that just wants to hang around

Isn't it cool when you actually can take it out of the nature? Make it even prettier than it is, closer to us... You people are grate!
