Description
It is with great trepidation that I submit Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Trying to stay true to Watson's description of "Bohemian" I went for someone who was a bit of a dandy...a nineteenth century beatnik of sorts, highly amused by the world though not entirely a part of it. For those who are counting this is black and white illustration number two for my "Boscombe Valley Mystery" project. And yes...he has a hobbit pipe. Pen and ink on Bristol Board.Related content

I love many of the adaptations of Sh that are out there, but I think this might come the closest to the Holmes I see when I read the stories. Your description of someone who is 'highly amused by the world though not entirely a part of it', really tallies with how I see Holmes as well - he seems to be constantly laughing in the stories (considering how often he is shown as a dour and troubled addict in adaptations), and most of his dialogue is sarcastic or gently mocking. I always relate him to stand-up comedians. Very astute about, and affectionate towards, human foibles, but always an outsider to that.
