I genuinely appreciate the criticism actually.

Thinking on your postulation: with the light source being towards that corner, having a bright piece up there cements the uniformity of the composition and lets the eye move to the faux-dock below it comfortably. Without the vines, your eye would migrate short of the corner (to the light-source that would still be present in the background) and then "jump" over the large black space to get to the dock.

So in part I agree with you, if only on an unspoken point that something better than vines could have been added (it's an old piece, lol!!). I don't know that it would be entirely perfect without something in that space, but I doooo however love the compliment engendered in the statement. Maybe I could have done something more like the lower left, with faded designs in that corner and still achieved comfortable eye movement (that aspect is so important to me!). Hm.

I love swirls, too!!
They are a little random, but then when you're working with abstract art, sense doesn't need to be in play with your piece so long as compositionally all the elements are right. Partly what i love about the genre so much. The bar placement actually took a bit of effort on my behalf! I was very careful to choose the right amount of tension between it and where the tool bar sits on the desktop. Ideally I had meant for this to be used as a tray for icons... but it kind of works alright just on it's own, too.

They're an attractive way of 'guiding' the eye around = plus, if you get the intricacy just right, they look so impressive.
