Description
This is Chee, a character from the graphic novel Gear by Doug Tennapel.

The plot revolves around warring cities of animals, who use giant mechs called guardians to defend their cities. If a city's guardian is destroyed, they have to steal one off of another city... or create a new one.

Chee is a 'south-plate insect' who was injected with a substance called GenoMetal when he was a grub... The GenoMetal slowly develops inside the vessel body, and once they reach physical maturity, forcibly mutates them into a giant mech. Thus killing the vessel.

He was always aware of his condition, but grew up to be strangely peaceful and kind. When he found out that a cat named Waffle (the protagonist of Gear) was also a GenoMetal mutation, he sought him out to tell him about his fate.

Chee's mission completed, he could no longer withstand the mutation and tansformed.

Sadly, the mech that was once his body was used by his people to attack Waffle's city.
