***Someone pointed out that it looks like she has no eyebrows, they thought her eyebrows were her eyelashes (she's sort of squinting in concentration) and I was wondering if anyone else sees it the same way, your input is very helpful, thanks!****Arrrgh! This took me forever!
I see a lot of Ariel drawings on here of her as a sort of sex symbol, I always thought of her as a silly teenage girl, not some watery tart
I always thought of her as never realizing how pretty she was so she had a personality. That's probably the worst drawing of Sebastian ever but it makes me giggle.
P.S. Don't put forks near your eyes.

I think her eyebrows are fine...people are dumb!
And I like your interpretation of her...she's acting more "her age" which is a nice change from the usual sex symbol. Growing up, I never thought of her that way either, so it's cool you went in this direction.

Man, I can believe that this took you forever because DAAAAAAAAANG lady, this may be my favorite work of yours yet! My brain would break just keeping track of all that stuff on the shelf behind her.
Man, but with all the good lighting, picture balance, and detail, I am almost ashamed that the thing that really wins me over is the EGAD HOLMES look that Ariel has on her face.

It did take forever! But I had one of those weeks where everything got in the way so I guess it feels good to finally finish it! This is my favorite coloring work I did, I really do like my pencil drawings a lot but I don't like to post them on here, even though people seem to like them better. This actually looks almost identical to the pencil, I usually make big changes.
I looked up Sherlock Holmes pictures for references on how to hold the pipe!
I know, I was watching the Disney Channel the other day and I was too lazy to look for the remote and all the live action shows are about mid-teen girls dressed all skanky and worried about if a boy likes her or not, or about her make-up or about her looks or about embarrassing herself by dressing funny... it's like girls can't worry about real things :/ Of course NONE of that is as disturbing as the porn on DA of my childhood cartoon heroes

Agreed. Disney's admitted that Ariel was created with the intent to be one of their sexier (if not sexiest) princesses/characters, but I agree with you 100%. She's always seemed like a dorky teenager - admittedly, their biggest fangirl. xD I love how you translated that, and I love how everything looks. Flounder and Sebastian are adorkable, and I love Ariel's expression. On that note, that's what I thought about her eyebrows, too - that she was just squinting in concentration. (Most times when you draw that kind of expression, the eyebrows are lowered like that.

I didn't know that about Ariel, but I always wondered if people were upset about her being in basically a bra for a good portion of the movie, when the other princess were covered from neck to ankle. Of course Melody looked ridiculous in that pajama top she wore as a mermaid in the 2nd movie (that movie is the worst
I'm not trying to make the person that thought the eyebrows weren't there feel dumb or anything, I just honestly don't know how they can't see them.
I had a teacher who thought a frog I drew was a mouse in 12th grade... it was green and orange and had webbed feet, she thought the eyes were the mouse's ears and the nostrils were the mouse's eyes. I later learned she would bring it out in her other art classes and ask if people thought it was a mouse too... she nearly made me insane.

Haha, I have to admit: TLMII isn't my favorite of the Disney sequels, but I did like the music. xD You're right on the fashions, though - but I'm thinking if she had been on land, given the time period, she would have been, too. (And she was, in her blue dress and that pink one.) It's that whole 1600-1700s stylings Disney princesses take. ;D
That's horrible! I can't believe your art teacher did that. I could maybe get asking a few of your classmates in that class (with your ok), but to pull it out for other classes, too? That's rotten. (I'm suddenly glad my worst misunderstood art stories all come from my mum. xD She saw this when it was still a WIP (before anyone really had their clothes/hair on and it was all just body outlines and expressions) and she asked me why I was drawing 'angry, naked babies'. xD)
