beautiful work on the dress! I also dig the 'large' hand.
no doubt she's very impressed!

Thank you! ; ;oh god she said "I want butterflies" and my brain convulsed and did... that.
Do you like the large hand? I've been getting a fondness for overemphasising hands lately. They're so... neat... and expressive. I've got a ton of sketches here that are just scribbles of hands.

yeah, I really dig the hand. People are always so quick to scream "that's not right!!!!" but I typically love it when people stylize things, makes for a much more interesting viewing experience. Boon is a master of stylization, I envy that boy to bits.

actually I agree with you. I adore realism... a lot. But surreal paintings own my soul. And the more stylized a piece is, the more likely I am to jump on it and hug it to pieces *laughs*
I dunno. I think there's a time to demand perfection in realism from a piece, and a time to just step back and go with the flow of the drawing. That's why I started drawing in the first place, to just... go with it and see what happens (if that makes sense)

when I go to either Art Center or SCAD (whichever will have me, I'm hoping more for Art center as Cali is my home), I have a feeling I'm going to have to let go of a lot of what I "believe" art to be, so I can reinvent myself, and really grow. And that could mean producing some real shite work while I'm there, and not living up to my own personal expectations.
My end goal is definitely surrealism... I think it takes far more talent to invent things than it does to copy something pixel by pixel, sort of ironic coming from someone who does the sort of graphite/charcoal drawings I do, but it's true.

Oh you will. I remember my days at the arts institute out here, and all the wonderful fights I would get in with the teachers. But there really does come a point when you just... let go, accept, and go with what they're trying to teach you. It doesn't mean you give up what art means to you, it just means you become more flexible. Artists are some of the most stubborn and headstrong idealists EVER, which may explain why we all have our view on 'art' and are so unwilling to be swayed from it *laughs* You're gonna be a frustrated mess, but it's going to be SO worth it.
And I agree. I can look at an animal and draw exactly what I see, I can look at a building, a person, etc and do that. But to make something... completely new? Something out of absolutely nothing, and something that's... well enough done that it's *believeable*?
Or even better, to somehow be able to create symbolism and move people, without using established, recognized symbols that have been passed down through time. I think that's one of the best things ever to create! *babbles incoherantly*
