This was for the static redesign contest over at project rooftop in memorial of Dwayne Mcduffie: www.tencentticker.com/projectrβ¦You all know how big a part static and his entire universe is to my life.
I wanted to give virgil a functional, but slightly futuristic costume.
There are metal plates in the fingertips of his gloves to conduct his electricity better. The metal around his torso and elbow is supposed to be like armor.
Those blue lines and random receptors in his armband and belt? Electrical chargers, and they keep track of his electromagnetic pulse.
betcha cant guess who designed all that for him
Time taken: 3-4 hours, give or take
looking back on this, virgil totally looks like a janitor. WHAT THE HELL.

Here we go again! Okay first off, I love the lightning, I have a weakness for it, and the way you played off of it to make the shadows and lighting on the body worked really well. I also like the luminescent tracks going down his legs and arms. The lightning crackle in the floor with his shadow is a nice touch, signifying that he's the light in the darkness. I do, however, think that the shockvox is too small compared to the actual show. They had it the side of their palm and the way you drew it made it smaller. The details on the uniform, such as the ridges on the elbows and sides are a good touch, especially the way you made them curl with the body and I love the new cowl and goggles. Great job over all!

This wouldn't have been my first choice for a redesign, but now that I have seen it, I really like it. I love how you spent the time to design it for *functionality* rather than just aesthetics. As always, I love you're use of light, especially the lightning and on his disk. The way you used the electrical pathways to define the edges of the (black, good color choice) disk is awesome and the ball lightning is spectacular.

Wow. You did an AMAZING job, Jess. This definitely honored Mr. McDuffie. He looks astounding! That is an amazing redesign, and the lighting is brilliant. I love the little gizmos on his arms and suck, and I'm glad you kept the Shock Vox the same. Though, it looks small..

I kinda wished I had kept his outfit truer to the original. Virgs just doesnt look 'hood' enough to me here. actually, he looks like a glowwy janitor
I actually made it a bit smaller on purpose. I mean, the one they had in the show was like an 80s cell phone

I loved yours, though! It's so pretty! And he looks more futuristic. And what would have been best would have been a jacket, honestly, if you were trying to keep it close.

I like the action pose and the ball of energy. and the glow lines down his costume.
I actually really like the costume he has in the cartoon and current comics, but that's just me.
Become a dentist eh? Then I think you'd like the Blue Beetle comics, Jaime has the same thought (if he hadn't become a superhero, that's what he was going to do).

Beetle doesn't die in his own series! He is alive and happy and has friends and family in it, so as long as you stick to that, you're safe!
Just avoid the angst-fest that is Justice League: Generation Lost. Don't be like me who was dumb enough to follow it because Jaime left the TT to join them and I thought he'd be happier/safer there. Oh what a fool I was.

Anyway if you hadn't mentiond it I wouldn't have even noticed the shock vox looked kinda outta place but it was still ok. I like the lighting and the glowlyness.
