Description “Not interested in what, Richie?” he asked quietly. “The Homecoming dance, or girls?”
The atmosphere shifted dramatically in that moment. Richie’s gaze shot up, his hurt expression unreadable, his eyes searing. “Neither, I guess,” he replied simply. He gathered his tray, still adorned with green beans, his knuckles white as he clenched the sides. “I have to go.” He turned and fairly ran in the opposite direction.
Fanfic: www.fanfiction.net/s/3149250/1…

technically, this scene didn't happen in the fic, but I think its one of those unwritten things. I felt so awful for Richie. Im sure he had to have cried his fair share becuase of Virgil
also, another reason I prolly cried like a baby: menstrual cycle mixed with THIS SONG: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-zFd6… .

ALSO: I added plant man. becuase...he made me laugh becuase he looked like a giant piece of broccoli.

D: Poor Richie!
This picture is SO BEAUTIFUL. All the lil photos are cute and that plantman poster is hilarious! The lighting really sets the mood. I LIKE IT! ALOT. In case you couldn't tell. >.> *Goes off to read the fanfic now*

The new influx of VR art and fics due to the re-airing of Static Shock has made me a VERY happy fangirl. XD

Oh, and I agree with the comments about 'Through a glass, darkly'. I swear my life will be incomplete if that story is not done before I'm dead. D:

haha, I KNOW RIGHT!!
but actually, they recently canceled it AGAIN
I think it come on at 2 am now
Im just gonna need to get it all on DVD or something

I KNOW I KNOW I KNOOOOOOOOW!!
and you know what? even if there IS an ending, Im afriad to read it. I might have a heart attack before Im done!

I'm very anal, so I tend to like and appreciate the little things.

Eh, seriously, they canceled again!? I haven't been paying attention to the TV much lately. *mutters obscenities about those who decided to cancel it* I seriously need to just own all the DVD's if they even have all the episodes on 'em. Or maybe just download the eps. myself and burn 'em.

GAAAH!! OMG, I have merely speculated on how it will end! And all my theories aren't very uplifting. I'm hoping they come up with some kind of -vaguely- happy ending, or I just might curl up in a corner and cry to myself for two days.

I wonder if they even HAVE a DVD set for static shock....hmmmm

also, the author is FAMOUS for happy endings, you just have to work for them. I have faith things will turn out OK, but with ALOT of torture towards the end.

Hi there! Just saw your review on FF-dot-net and thought I'd stop by your dA profile and drop you a line. First off, I am so, so flattered that somebody drew fanart for anything that I wrote. It helps that it's adorable - I definitely think there was room for gratuitous Richie angst in "That Way".

At the same time, I firmly agree with some of the other comments about "It's a Tradition" and "Through a Glass Darkly". They are certifiable angst-fests, and deserving of the praise. In point of fact, my intention for stuff like "That Way" was to show Virg and Richie dealing with more immediate things - I think Virgil is harder to write as smoothly un-bothered by Richie's homosexuality if it's not an AU 'fic where there's just so many other things for him to be concerned with, and that was sort of the challenge I posed to myself. How would their relationship work if Richie just came out and all Virg had to fall back on was, "Time for school - aw crap, Richie's gay, what am I gonna do?"

I definitely see your point that Richie angst is palpable and easy to relate to - I am, again, flattered that you felt strongly enough for him to draw him! It's odd: My wife and I recently managed to score "RENT" tickets to a last round of performances starring Anthony Rapp as Mark Cohen; I discovered RENT at the same time as I discovered re-runs of "Static", and so Mark has always been closely interwoven with Richie in my mind. The combination of the two in close proximity has been really neat, to say the least.

Anyway, thank you again!

oh my gosh, oh my GOSH. I pretty much almost passed out when I found that you saw this! thank you!

Your story REALLY moved me. You seriously hit teenage homosexuality on the head. I can totally relate, and I feel totally awful for richie.

wow, it seems like EVERYONE has read TAGD! I thought I was all alone. I think I'll do some fan art of it, since it STARTED my whole VR obsession.
I cant bring myself to read 'its a tradtition.' I just...cant. I cant read any of valkerie-alex's stuff. It just...messes with my mind too much. I'll be depressed for WEEKS.

I definetly have never seen RENT, but lots of my friends have and threaten to make me watch it ALL THE TIME. is it good?

once agian, OMG THANK YOU FOR COMMENTING! I post VR fan art in the fan fiction reviews, but I never really expect the author to CARE you know? so THANKS!

citizenjess In reply to Jessiphia [2009-11-16 18:39:38 +0000 UTC]

No problem, I was very touched by the fanart. Also, I am chuffed about the writing comments - I teach English Language Acquisition and tutor at the same college's Writing Center, and ... also write a loooot of 'fic, so it is truly the way to my heart/good graces.

Re: RENT: I think if you're a theatre buff in any capacity, it's one of those plays you have to see, just to say you've had the experience. It also has a very close-knit community/fandom, and is centered around a lot of the things that I tended to graft onto Richie: That sense of pride in himself, acceptance, safety, belonging, love. It's also snappy and sassy and the music is fun - if you have a chance to listen to the soundtrack, I think you would enjoy it. I'm a casual theatre fan, and I found the movie version kind of dull because they shift around some stuff in the second act that makes it seem very long-winded and boring. Other diehard "RENTheads" will probably scoff at the criticism - it's a good play, a bit overhyped, and a very mediocre movie. In that sense, seeing a stage version of it is best if you want to get the full experience, in my opinion. Beyond that, I think you would probably find like-minded people in a local GSA or GLBT youth organization, if there's one in your area. It sounds like you would benefit from being part of something like that if you're not already.

Personally, I don't know Valkerie-Alex - like you, I joined the fandom after she'd stopped updating her stories. I think she'd probably be nice, but I generally dislike original characters if they take over a story, and hers tend to be at least as important as Virgil and Richie themselves. Also, they are always a little too 'cool' to be not-annoying. There is a guardian angel character in "It's A Tradition" like that, and several characters in "Through A Lens Darkly" who irked me, but there were plenty of things I liked about TAGD, too. Naturally, the fact that "Tradition" is finished and fully contained, and less aggravatingly OC-centric makes me like it a bit better, but I think all V/R fans should have that weekend spent sloughing through the 29 chapters and bawling intermittently. Anyway, I did like "Tradition" an awful lot more than I disliked the OCs, and it's a holiday 'fic, so I do recommend making yourself hunker down and read it sometime soon. Just make sure you have a box of tissues.

Wow. I love the shading! It fits the mood so well. When I read that fic, I pictured this scene of Richie all upset when he got home too. Poor Richie D: I like how there are pictures of him and Virgil scattered all over his floor. This is very well done! :3

The lighting and mood are well done. Poor Richie. It always sucks to want to be more than friends with someone, and they want to be "just friends". I think everyone goes through that at least once in their lives.

I like the pictures scattered on the floor and the batman plushie (did you ever see the pic I did with a batman plushie? [link] it was also based on someone's fanfic, somewhere on the gas_station.).

Jessiphia In reply to silvanoir [2009-11-16 01:10:49 +0000 UTC]

haha, why yes it is! That picture was where I got the idea for a batman plushie from. That, and the actual fan fic from (she commented earlier becuase she recognized batman too. I also put in a photo strip from that story by richies foot ) small world, right?

I know. Especially when its something as akward as being GAY for your BEST FRIEND
that hurts. alot.

I also JUST posted all of these fan arts on the gas station. it took FOREVER.

If you think that's the saddest VR fanfic, you obviously haven't read Valkyrie-Alex's fics "Through a Glass, Darkly" [link] or "It's a Tradition" [link] . They're like a knife, right to the heart.

EXTRA Warning for "Through a Glass, Darkly".... it goes for 29 chapters, is unfinished, and hasn't been updated in years. Everyone tells themselves they won't read it, but if they do they find themselves cursing the heavens because it's so well written, and ends with Richie being in mortal danger and Static on his way to help, yet.... doesn't really end. It gets cut off, and will probably never ever be finished.

(I'll comment on your art next comment...)

OH YM GOD THANK YOU SOMEONE ELSE HAS READ IT THANK YOU THANK YOU THAAANNNKK YOOOUUUUU

I've read through a glass darkly. Actually, Thats was STARTED all of this. This WHOLE VR obsession? its THAT VERY FAN FICS fault.

To this day, its my favorite fan fic, even though its unfinished.
and I cried when I got to chapter 29. I KNEW it was unfinished, I knew it, but I couldn't stop. and chapter 29 came all too soon.

That fan fic consumed my life for a good two weeks. NO LIE.

I actually...am in the process of writing a continuation. but...I don't know if I should post it. I feels wrong to try and finish some ELSES fan fic. Even if I DID write it, I would need betas and all that. I don't know if anyone will even READ it.

I also haven't been able to make fan art for tha particular fan fic. nothing...seems good enough.

you cant even imagine how happy i am to find someone else who shares the pain from that fan fic.

silvanoir In reply to Jessiphia [2009-11-16 01:01:55 +0000 UTC]

Read the replies on that fanfic. Almost all the commenter feel the pain of it not being finished!

I spent a good week on it also. I almost never read unfinished fanfics, but kept seeing fanart of it on DA, so knew it had to be good to get all those gift pics, and it was.... it just... Richie needed to rescued. It stresses me out just thinking about it.

I had actually started reading it a few years ago when it FIRST started. I eventually got impatient, and lost interest.

then, on a whim becuase I was bored, I found it again after searching for vague names I remembered.
it was the first static shock fan fic i EVER read, and it seriously fucked me up for a while. Im STILL recovering.

oh god, and WHERE SHE LEFT IT. god it kills me. SO MUCH. poor richie. POOR VIRGIL.
and i also slightly wonder what would have happened to deimos.

To be honest, I think you should post your continuation and only take it down if the author complains.

Jessiphia In reply to HikaruFan555 [2009-11-16 17:40:05 +0000 UTC]

really? I dunno...I have a vague idea on how it would end between static/v/richie, but as for diemos and talon and the rest, NO IDEA. REALLY.
I think I need some practice before I tackle it.

and even if I DID tackle it, I would feel SO RUDE posting a link to it in the reviews area so all the unsatified readers can see it. I already feel sort of rude posting links to my fan arts in reviews I post for stories. so far, no one has told me off, but I keep thinking its going to happen.

maybe its one of thse stories thats just..better this way?

I read it long after it was abandoned, last year. All 29 chapters in a row. >_>
That was a bad idea for my emotional health.

The first Static Shock fanfic I ever read (back when it was new) was short, had a few misspellings, but overall wasn't angsty. Richie and Virgil go on a camping trip. [link]

although... Plant Man did make me smile, lulz. i couldn't help it; the facial expression you gave him on that little poster is just TOO FUNNY.

I was going to make a film strip pic from that story too, but i saw that someone already did it, so I left the idea alone. I totally had like, half a sketch done before I noticed someone beat me to it!

did you also write the one where they go to the beach? I definitely have a sketch for that one too!

haha I have to agree! Im going to put plant man EVERYWHERE now. oh god.

um, there are a couple in which Virg and Rich go to the beach... so i dunno which you mean, LOL. but i did do one of them; it was in my Color series, Magenta for Embarrassment, i think.
