Thank you! These guys reallllyyyy test your panning ability for sure! Even though I do have a tripod with gimbal head it's just much easier to do this kind of shooting handheld because of their erratic fast flight patterns!

Yeah after a few minutes...off the camera comes from that tripod... ( I have a pistol grip swivel head mount).

I am using a manfrotto 055 carbon fiber tripod with a Jobu Designs Black Widow lll gimbal head. It is smith as heck and great for panning slower birds, or even fast ones that have a regular flight path like ducks. Swallows? Lol not a chance, although I may practice on them with it just for the sake of practicing with it!
