Inktober 28

An illustration of a scene from a fantastic fanfic by solomonara based on a tumblr prompt.
As soon as I read that image, I knew I had to draw it. I really challenged myself with this piece, not only using a dipping pen but also attempting to make something very complicated (background! Many people! Poses!) and trying out several new techniques: the coil technique , one point perspective (which I knew about but haven't really tried out much or figured out), and the lightning bolt technique , as well as some techniques I've used before, including crosshatching, thicker lines around closer items and thinner around farther away to show perspective, and as always my favorite drawing tutorial .

I liked the practice with ink pens last Inktober--I hadn't worked with ink too much before that and I learned a lot. So soon afterward, my friend let me try their dipping pen, and it was really cool if difficult. So this year I decided to get one of my own and practice using a dipping pen through doing Inktober. I'm a bit behind, both on drawing and more on posting, but I plan to do a full 31 dipping pen ink drawings. Eventually. Given that, I decided to leave computer cleanup to a minimum so you and I can track my progress, if any, ink splatters and all.

Ink on paper cleaned up in Photoshop. Drawn while marathoning old Once Upon a Time episodes. Reference pictures used to remind myself of details of the different robins' costumes and appearances.
