Description
🐱 "You can't tell me there are things here to be feared."🐶 "Well, between you and me, I've seen things that are...really weird."
Inspired by a childhood game of mine, Night Light. It was an I Spy-like game, in that you were presented with a picture of a scene with all sorts of things happening around, and you were given clues in the form of a riddle by the two hosts, Pixel the dog and Pandora the cat, and you had to figure out what object or character on-screen they were talking about.
Part of the gimmick of the game was that there were two images in each room/area. One was the nighttime scene, which was fantastical but also a little nightmarish, fueled by the animals' imagination. The other was a kind of daytime scene you could uncover via a flashlight, which circled the mouse, revealing what was happening on the screen.
A decent playthrough of the game played by someone else can be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYDoBc…
I vaguely remember the nighttime scenes to be rather disturbing, only just within the limits for the age range (although I do recall things in and around the crib in the nursery room giving me a chill down my spine...), yet was also fascinated and enchanted, not only by seeing what was happening on the screen but also just the artwork alone.
Anyway, when I was drawing out the rough draft(?), I felt like giving vector inking a try, which is something I haven't used in years. At first, I was going to try Inkscape, but I decided to use Blender's Grease Pencil instead, which I hadn't given its fair shake but was more comfortable working with than Inkscape. Also, I could cheat and add some effects, including a few things in 3D in the background.
It was rather awkward working with Grease Pencil, there were times I wanted to give up on it. But for reasons I can't understand I kept pushing on anyway. I'm kind of glad I pushed through though, I've learned a few interesting things about Grease Pencil (though, as a side note, I still don't understand Geometry Node. But I digress...), and I guess the piece turned out okay in the end. Still, I'm not very much convinced about Grease Pencil, I still think I'm better off with a rough sketch. But I'll more than likely give Grease Pencil another try in the near future.
