Description One thing I've noticed with Trek fandom's ship renders is that most artists focus too much on their uber high poly models. Yes, it is true that you have more details to work with the fancy poly heavy toys but I believe something is lost in the compositions. The final images (while technically impressive and overly high resolution) tend to focus too much on the ships, with the background and other elements feeling like an afterthought.

I guess its also lack of experience. Skills like these fall under the category of "You either have it or you don't". For example, a million poly starship won't make up for shoddy lighting, lack of decent postwork and a bad camera angle. Oh sure, this doesn't apply to everyone but it's something that's always bothered me. With the exception of some damn fine people, most Trek ship artists tend to avoid en masse fleet shots, detailed full-on battle pics and idle images with a lot of background activity. Its an awful shame really, some people may have all the right models and equipment, but the art sometimes falls short. High poly models are amazing and all, but the way how you use them matters. So don't diss on the little guys with models of lesser quality.

So my friend kjc and I set out to do this little side project a while back. With 1/10th of the resources, polygons and probably RAM, we ought to give the big leagues run for their money... While riding on the wave of a beleaguered fan film project.

"We choose to do these things not because they are easy, but because they are haaaaard!"
