With the outbreak of the Belkan War in 1995, famed BAF ace Dietrich Kellerman was called back to the frontlines to bolster troop morale. He returned to active duty with several pilots from the 9th Special Education Course, the "Kellerman Institution", forming the third iteration of the Silber Squadron. Comprised of newer model F-16's and Kellerman specifically requesting to retain in his F-4.

In their last combat action, the reformed Silber Squadron was sent to reinforce BAF losses during Operation Battle-Axe. The unit was engaged by Ustio's Galm Team, and was completely destroyed in a fierce dogfight. While Kellerman himself managed to survive, his younger squadron mates did not. Dubbed the "squadron of tragedy", this harrowing experience caused Kellerman to permanently retire from aviation.
