Description
This was the project logo of the now scrapped Red Menace Project. This was started around late 2013 with a couple of friends to produce an anthology of stories in the vein of Ace Combat mixed with science fiction elements. Sadly, lack of time and proper commitment meant that the project would linger on the backburner for far too long. Over time, the team’s interest started to wane and the hard decision was made to finally pull the plug early this month. Any semblance of visual content would be slowly released via my account. Meanwhile, the unfinished stories remain an unknown variable as I need to speak to the authors to secure permission for public viewing. For now though, the blurb is as follows:

The year is 2021 and Humanity is still struggling to come into terms with the parasitic entities collectively known as the “Red Menace” or “RM’s”. These amorphous creatures were initially dormant, discovered miles beneath the Katanga region seven years ago. Nevertheless any knowledge related to the RM’s was kept secret by the US Government. A covert research program was established to ascertain their true nature. However, a bungled extraction experiment in 2016 led to a catalyst which awakened the entities. A mass growth of the RM’s was triggered and have rapidly expanded upward, forming clusters of organic mass which destroys life forms that come into contact.

Central Africa was easily overrun and the Mass Panic that shortly followed led to the haphazard use of Nuclear weapons, which in hindsight was a flawed strategy. The controversial collateral damage and subsequent radiation fallout merely worsened the appalling refugee crisis - with millions of people fleeing the African continent. The UN’s failure to maintain international order also led to several brush fire wars across the globe.

Humanity’s useless infighting and prolonged deliberation had distracted the world from taking any collaborative effort, leaving the Red Menace to regenerate unabated. Scientists would later discover that RM’s possessed a nefarious form of intelligent hyper-evolved Human DNA, which rebuffed any extraterrestrial origins. They primarily thrived on absorbing the inherent negative energies present in all life forms. All the fear, hatred and desperation caused by their appearance and the subsequent Brush Wars were all in the favor of the Red Menace. Fortunately, their expansion had inexplicably stopped by 2020, unable to cross any large water forms. However, major portions African continent had been left completely barren.

The Suez Canal area has effectively become the current front line against the Red Menace. In the wake of the Brush Wars, the UN pooled a multinational fighting force - certainly a determined, if desperate attempt to fight back the RM’s. The use of Nuclear attacks have been restricted while new strategies via conventional weapons are having some degree of success in destroying large swaths of the creatures. Aircraft in particular being the most effective as the RM’s lack any anti-air ability. However UN experts remain weary as they know full well that the Red Menace is a fully sentient and constantly evolving entity.
