Such defined features, your etches are stunning. As deliberate as the lines all seem, some of them seem free and flowing, which really creates a relaxing over all image - which can only be a good thing, right?

wow, soft ground eh? I've only been working in hard ground recently - haven't ventured off into the soft ground yet but I feel like its so full of potential and I'm looking forward to trying it out later next year.
This is great. The face itself is drawn flawlessly and its so organic. One sees a lot of inorganic, stale people-drawings nowadays (which is a habit I'm trying to get out of) and you definitely don't find that here.
So tell me about etching on zinc! I've been etching on copper all year.

To be honest I have never used copper as a plate before. But i have been pleased with some of the results of the zinc plate and soft ground.

sweet sweet. that's cool to only use soft ground. the nice thing about hardground is you can carry your plate around mid-working on it

I like this alot, the flowing lines of the hair, and her expression. Also I wanted to ask if this is the actual print or the zinc plate (I'm asking because of the writing)

Oh ok, I was just curious, because I think the backwards writing on the print really brings something new and modern to it, since the drawing itself is very Rennissance(spelling?)-like.

Very nice work. Moving lines... you darkened where you needed to, and had the lights or no lines at all (which implies shapes)... very nice. .

You know, looking at this one, it makes me think it would be perfect for a record album. Paint it and sell some discs, lol there you go. Great job once again!

stigmatattoo [2006-05-28 21:29:59 +0000 UTC]

+ i liked this one specially, it does have a renaissance-style linework... although the gaze is hardly a Madonna's
some lines are detracting from the general picture, though. i guess you know that already... all those jumbled cross-hatchings don't help, and the thicker lines are not always playing to valorize the drawing. i also wonder why you used soft instead of hard ground... the precise linework would have come out better. the soft ground seems to have let in some unwanted stains, too... although it makes it look even more like an antique plate, i guess
oh, i'm also missing the black on the inside of the mouth

good work, keep it up +

I like this, the woman is beautiful but the sketching makes her look old, not old in a middle age sense but a tired of life sense, its like shes an angel thats seen too much
the variations in think and thin line for her hair really work too

this is great. more emotion than usual. love the flowing hair. and that "I'm only a sketch" turned out backwards when you made the print.

This is nice. I like it. How did you do it exactly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JetJames In reply to onyxKNIGHT [2006-04-09 03:09:13 +0000 UTC]

this is a etching.
I started with a polished zinc plate. Put a soft ground on the zinc, bitumen based.

I then drew into the soft ground and placed in nitric acid. I did a few layers and dips in the acid.

That is a very general idea of what this piece entails
