Description These are the logos for the teams of Ridge Racer Type 8, a fictional successor to R4: Ridge Racer Type 4.

As you can see, some of the teams have remained from R4. However, a lot have time has passed since Real Racing Roots '99, and the series has expanded. New manufacturers and sponsors have joined the event, and some teams have gone through ownership changes.

I wanted each team to represent a different country. At the same time, I wanted to stress the core names of the franchise: Assoluto, Gnade, and Age, for example. There are two Japanese teams because I felt that both Kamata and Terrazi were significant brands.

I left certain manufacturers out that I felt were unnecessary, such as Sinesong, Lucky & Wild, and Zihua. To me, these brands offer nothing unique or exciting, and effort would best be spent concentrating on companies that players recognize, companies that actually have history within Ridge Racer lore.

This game is, again, meant as a continuation of the story of R4, so it stands to reason that certain people, places, and vehicles will pop up again as you progress through the game. Some teams have improved dramatically since '99, others have fallen behind. Depending on what team you choose to join, your role as a driver might be easier or harder.

These are great. The new additions seamlessly fit in with the other four established racing teams. The only qualm I have is that the 76 in Pac Racing Club's logo doesn't quite look right--the font doesn't really blend with the letters very well.

That's just me nitpicking, though. Everything else looks great.

I find it interesting that you made DSR an English racing team even though Soldat-Rivelta is Italian. Do you mind if I ask why you chose that combination?

That was just because I wanted to include more nationalities in the series, and if I made DSR Italian it would be the second Italian team. I realize there are two Japanese teams, but considering Ridge Racer originated in Japan I thought that was appropriate. Also, in the real world it's quite normal to see racing teams run by manufacturers outside of their countries of origin. For example, the Mercedes F1 team is based out of the UK. Toyota's European motorsport division which handled WRC, F1, and sports car entries was based out of Germany. So it's possible that an Italian manufacturer would set up shop in the UK, especially if their sponsor was English. It's never specified where any of Ridge Racer's sponsors are located, so I took some creative liberty there.

I see. Thanks for the input, and again excellent work on your interpretation of what Ridge Racer 8 should be

You did an amazing job on the logos. They look modern but you still kept the Type 4 logos pretty close to the original. I like the MMM and the Dig Lizard logos the best.

This would be quite an interesting game to play if things are done right. My only real point of disagreement would be on some of the manufactueres you left out. I perfeclty understand where you're coming from and I can see the rationale.

At the same time, while I do agree effort would be best spent on the older brands and teams, if possible, I feel like at least Sinesong and Luck/Wild could at least have a chance, or if I had to pick, Sinesong given ...

Okay this is a bit of my own bias having played Ridge Racer 7, but the Jujak had a good first impression on me, and it would be quite an interesting brand to continue on storywise. I'd only stick with Lucky and Wild because at least in terms of asthetics (lacking a 3DS or Vita, I can't comment on how the car actually behaves in gameplay) is an interesting machine.

My slight disagreement not-withstanding, clearly a lot of thought was put into the logo designs, not to mention of course pairing barnds with manufactuerers when it can be applied. It to me implies a little bit of flexability in terms of picking a manufactuer with a team much like RRT4, but it seems like it may be limited to the likes of Mappy, Solvalou, and Pac racing Club, with DRT having been paired with lizard, along with Gnade with Galaga, and Kamata with Naviway.

One can hope for a game or at the least dream, it's very well done overall. I can only imagine how long it took to put everything together, that alone makes me admire this a lot, but I'm also impressed a great deal over what you have posted thus far.

Thanks! I appreciate the detailed response, haha. Perhaps it's because I miss the golden era of the franchise, but nothing introduced in Ridge Racer 6 onward has interested me enough to the point that I felt compelled to include it in my designs. Obviously there are fans out there who enjoy the more recent titles, which is totally fine. For me personally, Namco hit its peak with R4, and Ridge Racer V was the last great game in the series.Β

The reason I decided to pair up manufacturers with sponsors is because I wanted to emulate the way the racing world actually operates in real life. I felt that a better story could be told if these relationships and affiliations were set in stone, rather than letting the player decide. This way I could give the background to the Real Racing Roots series depth and history. I could say, for example, that DRT bought Lizard or that Β this team merged with this other team and vice versa. Again, the inspiration for this partially came from R4 but also had a great deal to do with Studio Liverpool's fantastic writing with Wipeout. By letting the players determine the combination, I'd have to forfeit some of that storytelling.

And the logos themselves are obviously very simple - I wanted to give each team a fresh unique identity while still staying true to the core brands of the franchise.Β
