Description
Fusion Eel is one of my original Mavericks. I designed him when I was in High School, back in the latter 1990's. The images I'm posting here of my original creations are newer drawings, though, done a few years back around .... 2008-ish, I think. Here's an interesting one. Fusion Eel is a relic of ancient technology by 21XX times, a representation of a bygone energy source being phased out for newer, safer means of powering our homes. His tale is more tragic then any of my other Maverick creations.
Eel was charged to oversee the safety of the Abel City nuclear plant chain, when it was decommissioned and Eel was put out of work. Fearing his days are over, he went into hiding only to be infected with the Sigma Virus. Once infected, his fear of retirement possessed him and he doused himself in the radiation of a plant he forcefully re-opened, becoming an energy being. He then wandered the land irradiating anything that even gets close to him in confused vengeance.
His locale is the energy plant that he re-opened. His stage would have a maze layout, and the player would have a set time limit to make it out AND deal with the boss before the self-destruct that Fusion initiated at the start of the level (he does this because he fears capture at the hands of the Maverick Hunters) annihilates the entire building resulting in the death of the player. This is a permanent change to the stage; if the self destruct goes off and the player saves their game afterward, re-entering the stage will reveal a leveled area and the non-collected items located in the stage will have all new locations. If the player does make it to the end and successfully quells the boss in time, they are rewarded with a rank decided on the route they took and how fast they completed the level.
Being a walking (floating?) nuclear pile, Fusion Eel is tremendously powerful. His attacks are bright, cut a wide swath across the screen and are to be avoided at all costs. The big blast to beware is the Special Weapon, the Fusion Expire; a miniature nuclear explosion. This is one boss that has to be taken down quickly for several obvious reasons.
