So here's one that's been on the docket for a while. A good time ago someone asked me if I could illustrate a picture of Red standing in front of his fellow Red Alert operatives, and I thought that was a doable request. I knew it was going to take me a long while though, so I wasn't sure when I was going to get around to it. I'm glad I bit down and gave it a try.

As you can likely see, this was one hundred percent done traditionally. I only used digital media to scan and get the balance of light and dark more sharp. It's been a long while since I've done a black and white piece, and one that I stuck completely to pencil and pen for. It was good artistic exercise; more fun then I thought it would be.

The scaling for the Red Alert bosses are all over the place. I couldn't find a good reference for the size comparisons of the characters, so I just went with what I thought would make a good looking image. I don't think Gungaroo and Boarski are really that small, I just had to make them kind of short to fit everyone on the page. I also made all the most complicated design-wise characters on the right side for some reason. There is a lot more fine detail noticed on that side of the illustration. Rather sloppy and unbalanced, really. My bad on that one.

I thought adding color might only uglify the image if I tried using my traditional media to color this. My only means of coloring traditionally are 20 year old markers and water color pencils, and I'm not sure if my skills (or the markers) are up to the task with work this complicated. I might try to go back and color this to find out, but I'm thinking right now this is going to remain a black and white piece.
