I think that Samus being the protagonist and NOT the final boss makes even Other M a lot better than Federation Force!

This is starting to feel like Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn ending, where Spock dies. Imagine your Kirk and Samus is Spock, blocking your way is the glass and the Nintendo radiation slowly killing her.

I personally think that it isn't the fact that Federation Force that people are raging about this, I think it is the fact that it had the "Prime" part added to it.
As soon as they said Prime it rose fans super high, and when the saw it wasn't what they were wanting they turned got extremely upset. And now they are all on a hate band wagon.

As Metroid fan, I feel that this game could be interesting and funny, but we're waiting for a big Metroid videogame since Prime saga and Other M and this year is 30th anniversary of this saga and we wanted a great metroid videogame and we'll have a spin-off minigame.
Is not the word Prime, it's about our disappointment.

I wouldn't be surprised if one was in the works for the WiiU but they pushed it back to the NX.
We shouldn't have long to wait on NX news atleast. They announced the release date for the system.

NintendoSquarEnixFan [2015-06-24 21:29:11 +0000 UTC]
Nintendo's showing of the game was indeed poor, but nothing, nothing that justifies this kind of rage and reaction. Ultimately 15,000 people are demanding that a game early in development, anywhere from six to eighteen months (!!) from release, be scrapped, based on 60 seconds of footage broadcast over the internet. How harmful is this to the developers at Next Level, a studio of dozens of people who will work long hours to make this game the best it can be?
Justification for frustration, discontent, sure. Justification for that frustration to be expressed in this manner? Absolutely not. It's juvenile and insulting, and this opinion piece skirts too close to implying that this petition has some legitimate ground to stand on. And, as for "the endless reworking of IP", get a grip: this is a completely different style of game. That's the whole point of the anger, it's nothing like previous uses of the IP, therefore people don't like it. Not to mention that before this, Metroid games have been side scrollers, a first-person adventure, a third-person action-adventure with CGI cut scenes and a terrible representation of Samus as a character, had split-screen mutliplayer, a spin-off that was an FPS with online multiplayer, and get this: a pinball game. I repeat: a Metroid pinball game. Yet a squad based shooter using and extending Metroid's universe is a step too far, and, this piece hints, a step with justifiable grounds for complaint? Was the Halo real-time strategy game, not featuring the Master Chief, grounds for Halo fans to be unhappy?
If there's anything we've just learnt from Nintendo's E3 broadcast, it's that their fans don't like Nintendo changing core IP into new and unusual things, because fans are asking for more of the same of the previous decades. They want a 'traditional' Animal Crossing (Amiibo Party for my money is more deserving of fans' ire), another Zelda, F Zero. And why the implicit insinuation that a 3DS spin-off--in which Nintendo are attempting an extension of what one of their IP can be--is somehow less worthy of development time than another traditional home console Metroid game? Again, that's an insult to Next Level. Judge them on what they ship, not on what is displayed for sixty seconds. Why shouldn't Nintendo be producing games for the 50 million plus 3DS owners, when Wii U has yet to hit 10 million? Should Sony be producing Vita games at the expense of the more successful PS4?
If Nintendo have their heads screwed on, they'll stand by Next Level, whose work shouldn't be judged on:
a) sixty seconds of footage
b) the loudspeaker of an online petition.
If 'fans' don't like this, they have one simple and effective weapon to use when the game ships: not buying it.

The fault is not Next Level (they can do a great game). The fault, in my opinion, is Nintendo, because they seems that had forgotten Metroid saga and after all this time they show that, a multiplayer minigame that no one wants.
The game could be funny, but is not a Metroid Prime. Yes, they did a pinball game, but Metroid fans had Metroid Prime Hunters on DS game and they was happy.
Petitions of cancelling that has no sense, I'm with you, but all generated hate (like thumbs down on the Youtube video) is a way for fans to send a message to Nintendo: We want a real Metroid game.
As fan of Metroid, if it looks good and it's cheap at the release, be sure that I'll buy it, because I do not want him to forget the Metroid saga, only to take her on good direction.

I expect that every Deviant Artist with an affinity to the Metroid series would do this - how they will respond is to the benefit of the doubt. The response you drew up is mellow, more in line of what Matthew Taranto (BiTF) or AndyKluthe (who covered the Metroid series' overlooked 25th anniversary with humor) would do. Yes, it is not the best time to be a Metroid fan who for 5 or 8 years have waited eagerly for the release of a new title and what they get is a spin-off game (which to my opinion is not that bad in concept). At least you are not like the Animal Crossing fanbase (who got a board game ripped-off from Mario Party 10) or the F-Zero fanbase (who got nothing at all).
Yes, Samus - Nintendo seems to either have screwed you up ( or not, who knows?), but at least you are in the Super Smash Bros. series. Take a look at Captain Falcon to you left - I know he feels the same way as you, not having a proper F-zero game since the N64 era and essentially being teased with the recent Mario Kart 8 with the anti-gravity mechanic and DLC's featuring his suit, his car and his racetracks (www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv3v8i… ) which is basically F-zero all but in name but he takes all of that pain like the man he wants us to see.
Being one of video game history's most iconic female protagonist who broke the gender barrier in the days of 8-bit pixels and all-around badass fighter in SSB, all I want to say is PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER, MAN!!! This is not how an icon of female video game characters would act! Drinking does not solve anything - it only makes your aim bad and worsen your fighting performance on the field! Man up - that is how the Samus Aran the world know would and will do: keep fighting even if the odds are against you. And in this fight you are not alone- there are others who will be behind you and they will never waver. Keep fighting - that is the only thing left for you to do. FIGHT!!!

Great response!
Samus is a Nintendo character with personality (sorry Mario and Link), a fighter woman that actually Nintendo only uses for Smash or like a sexy woman with zero suit.
I hope for a new Metroid 3D or 2D (super, fusion and zero mission were fantastic too) over the next few years.

From what I heard Retro Studios is working on it - the sad catch is that it may be for the next console Nintendo is "supposed" to be working on. On the topic of Retro Studios, I found out that the "makers of Metroid Prime" were also in E3 showcasing their newest game entitled "ReCore" for the X Box One - wonder if the fans knew about it by now.
In my opinion, the spin-off game seems not aimed primarily for the Metroid fans per se but for those who are not familiar with it (may I add?) at all. It has been five years since a Metroid game was made and by that time it may have been forgotten by those who may not have played it or may be familiar with the franchise but knew little to nothing whatsoever. I believe that this is Nintendo's way of attracting new converts for the otherwise dormant franchise and boost their sales ( ultimate motive) and save the franchise from total irrelevance ( after the last game).
The saltiness of the fans and the over-the-top desire to cancel the game may do more harm than good in the sense that no one would be able to play it regardless of whether it is connected to the Metroid line - and in part may further limit the fanbase size for the franchise. As I remember from one disappointed-yet-understanding Metroid fan comment in Youtube-the Metroid fanbase may be as barren as the planets Samus Aran herself have explored ( in the sense that their own numbers are dwindling and its relevance is becoming weaker by the years).
To add up a different point, at least it is not like Half-Life: almost a decade and yet their fans still hope for its release.

I don't think that cancelling it could be the best option. The game is practically finished and it could be sell by 5$ on eshop.
On the other hand, we want a real Metroid game and this was a joke for all metroid fans, that's the real problem.
