Description EDIT: Hey so, this is outdated! Check out the re-draw I did which is much better and doesn't have terrible posing and coloring! [link]

So, I finally got around to making a proper Cadet sketch and bio! This was all done pretty quick (lineart and color in paint tool SAI, glow effects and paint labels in Photoshop CS5) so it might be subject to change, but either way here's the current info:

Name: Jexis the Aquacadet (she abandoned her birth name when she took up her heroic duty)

Age: 18

Eye color: Averagely brown

Height: 5'4"

Strengths: Manipulation of magnetism, creation of EMP blasts, good with computers, solid conversational skills, strong sense of duty and purpose

Weaknesses: Becomes mildly helpless when lacking anything magnetic to manipulate, is forever suspicious of computers and science since The Accident, has a tendency to destroy technology with accidental magnetic pulses

Bio:
Jexis the Aquacadet (or just Cadet Jexis, for short) lived a normal life, growing up comfortably in the suburbs and then heading off to a prestigious college to study computer science. Here she partook in a miraculous accident involving an intern Skype chatting on a computer which controlled a particle accelerator, which then proceeded to rip a tear in the space-time continuum. It simultaneously brought to the physical plane electronic demons which donned the form of the first thing they saw--Skype smilies--and also gave the young Cadet powers over all that is magnetic.

Armed with the ability to combat the new monstrosities released upon the world but totally lacking any knowledge of how to do so, she sought out role models to emulate and found The Aquabats! Now she dons her Cadet uniform and her trusty cans of metallic spray paint in order to take up the mantle of Truth, Justice, and the Aquabanian way, and channels her magnetic energy through the most powerful hand symbol known to mortal man, The Aquabats! "A", to vanquish the evil demonic cyber Smilies and to prevent misinterpreted intonation everywhere.

Hi there! This is amazing! My sister is a huge Aquabats fan, and I'm trying to find someone who can draw her Aquacadet for her. She is a rather huge fan of yours, I heard as well.
Anyway, I was just wondering, is there any way I could commission you to draw her Aquacadet?

I did the sketch, lineart, and coloring in paint tool SAI except for the spray paint labels and glowing hand effects, which I did in Photoshop CS5. Ah, I should have said that in the description. I'll change it now.

oh its cool did you download photoshop CS5 for a limited time or do you own it? and is paint tool SAI free to download?

Yes I own it; I paid the $700 out of my own pocket for CS5 because I believe that's a totally reasonable and non-arbitrary price. All I had to do was give up caviar for a month and I had the money.

Christ no, I couldn't ever afford that. But there are other ways to get it. If you don't already know how, send me a private note if you're curious.
And I believe SAI is free. I got the English version from here, I think: [link]
It's a wonderful tool and I highly recommend it. You can manually adjust lines after you draw them, so it's amazing for inking sketches, plus you can save them as a .psd and then color them in Photoshop, although SAI has pretty decent coloring built in already.

do you use a mouse/keyboard to draw on the computer? or do you have a tablet & stylus?

As a "traditional" artist, the jump to digital manipulation of drawings is quite daunting. I feel like there will be a huge disconnect between me and my art if I go digital, because I won't be able to "feel" the lines as I draw them.

I use a tablet to draw and I love it, but I do admit it has a little learning curve, however it's totally worth it in the long run. Although, you can sketch things, scan them, and ink them in SAI, which is what I used to do.

hmmm I might play around with the scanning method first... for as much as I LOVE colored pencils, good ones are EXPENSIIIIIVE and getting perfectly smooth colors is something I'm usually too impatient to work through.

Plus once I start coloring this graphic novel, I'll need an efficient way to "ink" the pencil drawings

Yeah man, art supplies really can get way up there.

When it comes to inking efficiently digitally, I really think SAI is one of the best tools, so give it a go when you need to!

Thanks! I had to think of something nifty to compete with all these other really amazing Cadets that I've seen.
