Kejoro is the definition of temptation and tease. That particular pose, the appreciation of a beauitful woman glancing behind her as if to say "Come in."
...only it's not a woman at all. By the time you realize it, it's already too late.

In the process of appreciating all your recent excellent bookmarks, J, and since I recently find myself with a surfeit of time on my hands, I imagine I'll be contributing to the Early 2015 Yokai Exposition... or something, myself.
Also, pretty sure they used this type of characterization for Sadako in "The Ring." Not exactly sexy, but definitely of the "scary person behind long hair" motif.

There are so many yokai who hide behind long, black hair! "The Ring" was the first horror movie that really left a big impression on me. And then there was "The Grudge" that made it even worse. It was never really the hair that scared me as it was what it hid underneath.

But I'm loving each yokai backstory I come across nowadays. The origins of some are questionable, but the majority of them make a lot of sense. In this case, Kejoro's story may have been told to dissuade young men from going into the red light district. But you should definitely contribute your talent to the yokai drawing pool! It'll be interesting to see your interpretations! ^_^ Though I have this (silly?) notion that drawing or writing more about the supernatural is an invitation in itself for strange things to happen. @_@

Okay this is more scary than the other one with the eye. (shivers)

Probably because of the hair? Sometimes what's hidden is actually more scarier than what's in sight. >_<

Actually, from the sources I've looked into, no one is quite sure what her face looks like under all of that hair, whether she's just featureless, normal, grotesque, or even beautiful. It's said that although human men find her frightening, male yokai actually find her appealing.

She seems kind of harmless to me, but maybe that's because I'm not a guy. But this is one of the cases where I can understand her origins as a mythological being. They probably told this story to younger men to dissuade them from visiting the red light district in the first place. XD
