There is a great connection with the model in this macro. The amount of detail in the iris is very compelling and draws the viewer into wishing that he/she could see more inside the pupil (as if there was something to be seen).
The DOF in this image could have been widened to provide more sharpness with the veins on the left side. The shallow DOF is a little distracting as some elements seem to be blurred when the viewer may expect them to be sharp.
The lighting is casting a shadow that keeps drawing attention to it.
I wonder how the image would appear if the iris was left in full colour with the remaining image in black and white.

Great detail
The darkness of it being black and white really enhance the intensity of the iris. Love it.....

Is it ok to request permission to 'attempt' to draw this, of all the macro eye shots I have seen on here this is just such an amazing challenge, the highlights, the aperture setting that gives the amazing blurred effect, the sharp contrast in the lower right corner and the iris definition. I will obviously give credit and reference when its done. Great portfolio by the way, and to say this was your first eye photograph its an exceptional capture!

Very interesting image. The black-and-white makes it seem mysterious and really draws my eyes to all of the details. Great job!

Amazing is so sharp. When I'm taking some macro shoots I've always had problems with focus

A perfect macro.
IMO, I would just like to see some color in the eye so that the colour would capture me.
