a man gets literally launched out of a bar and pinned down the ground by two bouncers. he got up with his face scarred and bloody, probably from the hard fall and the rocks on the ground. the man was quite intoxicated at the time, and was immediately taken away by police that were patrolling the area. this was only one of the arrests and fights that happened that night. as soon as this picture was taken, another fight immediately took place no more than 20 feet away from where i was. Police were able to take care of the situation, but by this time three men and two women have suffered some minor and serious injuries. Violence along the westend of vancouver has been a usual part of the night scene for quite a while now, but this year, from what i've seen, i think the city is set for a record high number of incidents. not to include the gang violence that has been happenning lately.Related content

the place i hate the most. it's a meat market if you know
what i mean for frisky people hungry for sex and fights.
the whole granville street strip is known for incidents like
this.

Wasn't too risky to shoot this? My experience with places like that says that it is quite dangerous to go around with a camera! So you must be a brave photographer!

well, in a way it is. i mean you got fights and riots and drunks left right and center.
but once you get a vibe for the crowd and what you're shooting at, then it's usually ok.
if you think about it, drunks are more loose compared to morning people who are usually
very uptight about things. for this piece i was around bouncers, so i felt safe, other than that
you just have to look over your shoulders most of the time

they usually are peaceful and easy going. that guy that got arrested was an australian tourist, or maybe he just moved here. point was, people inside the club ( i was outside the whole time) were insisting, including him, that he didn't do anything wrong. even when the police took him, other people were saying that he didn't do anything. he probably just said or did something to a girl inside and the bouncers took him out lol. like the fine prints would always say, suspects are innocent until proven guilty. but yeah, lately a lot of violence has been happenning. i really don't know why. relatively, i'd still say canadians are more peaceful just because majority of us don't carry guns around lol.

as long as cops are around with lots of people, i don't care. if it were the downtown eastside, i wouldn't even think about it.
