Hi. I'm nearly finished with my first abra, but I'm stuck on the feet. . I'm currently on the foot and from what I'm reading of row 10b I need to do 3 hdc in the chain of 3 I've just made... However the next bit says to continue as normal... Ive tried to do it but I ended up without a gap for stuffing and I'm pretty sure that's wrong... Do I skip the chain and carry on as is... This doesn't leave me with 28 stitches. Basically do you know what I'm meant to be doing as I'm very lost! I can see how you can get 28 from the maths but actually crocheting it I can't get it to work. I did do a figure of 8 originally which means you go over the 3stitch bridge twice but it you don't do that (which I don't think you do because otherwise it's flat not stuffable) it doesn't make up to 28 because you end up going over the start again,  does that make sense? Any help would be much appreciated, great pattern think I'm just being a bit dim with this bit!!! Thanks

The "sharpcluster" stitch wasn't explained very well so I had to improvise, other than that a very good pattern. It also didn't help that the pictures used were of the black and blue Abra. Stitches are generally very hard to see when you use black.

Yeah... I figured the large nature of the yarn would compensate, but well. The "Sharpcluster" is a sort of home made stitch that's basically just a multi-dec with a half-double stitch in the middle, to give it more of a point, rather than a curve. I'll look it over sometime. It's been a while since I made it, after all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe using a diagram for the stitch would be better...
Also thank you very much! This is the first pattern I've ever made, and it's so great to see people appreciate it, even if it's a bit unclear at points. ^^

How big is he when he's done? He looks massive! XD But still very cute

Oh, no - he's sitting on a pillow. He sits at about 15 cm and the legs are about 20 cm long, so he's not that big. But if you're referring to the black and blue one in the pattern, oh yeah - that one's life sized and took me fifteen entire skeins. It's the exact same pattern, just with different yarn thickness. The one in this picture uses a 2.00mm hook. The big one uses a 6.00mm hook. And the snowy one uses a 4.00mm hook and is about 40cm, with 50cm legs. The size differences can be a bit dramatic, but the small ones are perfectly manageable in size

I love this!!! Abra is something I would never consider making, beacause it has all of those weird parts and pointy joints, there is just so much going on... And you made him beautifully!!! I am in love with the hands, lovely job.

Thank you! ^^

Do note that the hands can differ greaty depending on how you place the fingers. It's easier to get it right on smaller ones like the one in the picture, though.

Oh, I'm sure.  I really love the whole shape of the arms, though. That sharp angle where the forearm turns into a skinny arm. UGH.  love the whole thing, beautiful work!

Your pattern looks awesome, too. You could definitely sell patterns like that one if you wanted. I know people would pay for a great quality pattern like yours.

That is really amazing to hear.
Especially considering that this pattern is the first crochet pattern I've ever made o_O

The design itself is so unique! Get yourself an Etsy or Ravelry account, STAT! I bet you would sell a lot of patterns when you make more designs.

Arba is my absolute favorite and when I came across this I was ecstatic. But unfortunatly I'm no where near to advance at corchet so I've been desperately trying to find someone here in town that I can pay to create this for me. I had a quick question, im really wanting the big abra, so are the instructions for the little one? And the big one are in "parenthesis"? Also I live in Arizona and can't find balls of yarn only 8oz and 12oz. Did you know how many ounces are in your ball of yarn? Just so I know how much to buy

Yes I love the big one in the traditional yellow and brown colors I'm trying to get that, but I'm having to get help to make it by someone with more experience so I was trying to make sure I have that pattern to give them and not end up giving them the small pattern. Wow that's a lot of money well worth in my opioion I just love Abra so much. And yes I don't understand why the US doesn't use the metric like everyone else! Lol thanks for helping me and my dumb questions! I just love that big one so much!

It's the same pattern for both of them, actually. It's the thickness of the yarn and hook that decides the size of the finished product. And if you're going for one of THAT size, prepare for wallet-pain. I spent the equivalent of about 170 USD on materials for that thing. The paranthesis-bit is in regards to the colour changes, as the big one has a different colour palette and pattern. And paranthesis are these little things: ()  You did seem a bit confused about that.

The big one I made is BIG. Like, the size of a five-year old, big. Currently making a medium-sized one with a 4.00mm/size 8 hook. I'm not done with it, so I can't really give you any measurements of the final product, but I can say that the arms are about 25cm long. Maybe that's big enough? ^^' (25cm is about 10 inches)

I'm not sure where you got the oz-thing from. I never refer to any weight or volume related measurements in my patterns, only the thickness of the yarn. (Or grain or whatever it's called. English is not my first language and terminology tends to slip me by from time to time.) You must have read wrong somewhere. See, I'm Swedish. We use the metric system here. The imperial system... makes no sense at all to me. I would never refer to something in OUNCES of all things. ._. That measurement makes the least sense of all of them. Nah. I say find a type of yarn that you like, (Remember: the thicker it is, the larger your Abra will be) and simply make sure that the size of the hook fits the size of the yarn. Buy one of every colour you will need, then buy more as you run out. That way you won't end up buying too much and end up with a whole heap of leftover yarn. That may be trickier if you're outsourcing the crocheting process, though.

I suppose I could give you the (metric) weight values of the yarn types I used for the different sizes and the total number of balls I needded.

small: balls of 25g, a total of 3 balls. 2 yellow, 1 brown (2.00mm hook)
medium: balls of 100g, a total of 4 balls. 3 white, 1 light blue (4.00mm hook)
large: balls of 150g, a total of 15 balls. 7 blue, 8 black (6.00mm hook)

Does that help at all?

Nice to hear. I'm in the middle of making a third one since they're so huggable x3 The pattern might be a little tricky becuse I'm using a few custom maneuvers, but I make sure to explain them all and provide pictures where needed, so as long as you pay attention to what's written, you should be able to pull through.

(At least I hope so. First pattern and all that... ._.)

At least you were brave enough to post the pattern. XD

I'll get around to making one for sure. I just posted a long list of stuff I need to make on my journal if you want to check it out.

Jhonie In reply to Safyer [2015-04-25 16:45:26 +0000 UTC]

Hehe. I have a similar list - only of patterns that I intend to create. I'm already done with the Manaphy (it's a far simpler pattern ) and I'll upload it... as soon as I can get assed to, and I'm done with my Ninetales prototype. It's a bit derpy, but I think I can improve it. The reason I uploaded the pattern is that, well, I love finding patterns online myself, so why not share the joy, right? That, and the reason I made the Abra pattern in the first place is that all of the other crocheted abras I found online, with pattern or otherwise, were very... sub-par. Clearly, that was a void that had to be filled.

After the Ninetales... maybe a Noivern? I love Noivern. Gotta figure out how to do the ears first...
Maybe a Xerneas eventually, just to show off. Or Arceus. Or both. Or a hybrid. Heh, wouldn't that be something?

Well, any patterns that you make and post, I'll be sure to save and make them.  If you want me to test stuff for you, I would be willing to do that as well.  (I have a huge stash of yarn that looks rather scary and keeps getting bigger)

I love Ninetails.  I saw your prototype.  It looks pretty good. Can't wait for the pattern for it.

I'm not too much a fan of the show so much as I am a fan of the creatures from the show, so I don't know many of the names.

I only wish I could create patterns.  Right now I'm just working on creating other peoples things.  Well, I'll add you to my watch list.

I don't watch the show myself. I do, however, play the games that the show is based on.

Manaphy is this little fellow: iamthepokemonmaster.files.word…
Noivern is this guy: static.zerochan.net/Noivern.fu…
Xerneas is this fabulous rainbow deer god: fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/201…
And Arceus is the actual Pokémon god. He looks like this: img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…

Manaphy is SOOOOO CUTE!!! I really can't wait to see your pattern for that.  As soon as you post it, I might drop all my projects just to make it. lol.

Heh, little Manaphy only took me three days from start to finish, and that was while inventing the pattern. It won't halt your projects for long

Well, I'll keep an eye out for the pattern and be sure to post the finished project as soon as I finish. (with credits to you ofcourse)

I can't wait to see what the future holds for your pattern creations.
