Description This is a painting of Merlin about to cast a spell from the BBC series Merlin, played by Colin Morgan.

If you do leave a comment, maybe you could suggest someone that you would like to see painted as I so often get stuck on choosing the next subject, thank you

I am so glad to see you post some new beautiful artworks. I often would go back on DeviantArt just to see if you had uploaded new art pieces. And you’ve made a terrific comeback. I like how perspective and anatomy seem to come naturally to you. And the composition of your portraits is always both beautiful and clever. I don’t even know if you do it on purpose but it feels like you know where the viewers’ eyes should be. That is why your paintings always seem raw and organic and they capture the subject without portraying any vanity.

Thank you for your beautiful comments Melvin I always take steps back to look at my paintings as I'm doing them to see how others would view them and I do change the ideas a lot as I go along. For example this painting of Merlin, the original concept was just his face with a smokey  background, then I added light from behind his head hence the very light edges and finally added an open hand which I blurred to give the painting depth. I try to give the viewer a feast to look at, where they can see details that other painters leave out such as skin details and little hairs on the skin edges. I basically want to make the painting beautiful

You’re welcome. The priority you give to some details compared to some other also gives this impression of depth to your paintings.
Also I love how you’ve always kept the same style along the years with the black or very dark backgrounds. It must be challenging to make an organic piece with beautiful lighting when the background is not supporting the lightning. But you always manage to make it work.

This is so beautiful and the detail is incredible.

If you were getting stuck on a new picture - maybe one of Merlin and Mordred?

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, it means a lot to me. I was thinking of painting another Merlin but against a massive evil dragon, it'll be something that cannot be found anywhere
