"Thunder rolled through the sky above the town. What timing! I thought, gazing upward at the dark cloud. I loved thunderstorms, and was thrilled at the thought of walking home from work with lightning flashing and thunder rumbling around me. I took a slightly longer route than usual, as it was springtime and the choke cherries, my favorite flowers to smell, were in bloom. I wanted to take the path that led me past the most choke cherry trees.

The wind blew straight into my face as I walked, and the thunder gradually grew louder and more frequent. I hadn't seen any lightning yet, but then, I was hardly looking for it. The sound of thunder and the sweet smell of the tiny white flowers were what mattered most.

I was just walking past the silent construction site of a new building when it began to rain, and rain hard. I kept my head tilted downward, to avoid getting rain in my eyes, and had made it most of the way past the now-muddy construction site when I saw something shiny on the ground. Naturally, I took a closer look to see what it was. Not a coin, that was obvious right away. But it didn't look like the usual shiny garbage, either. So what was it? I crouched down to look even closer. It looked like real metal. Not caring if my hands got dirty, I brushed off some of the mud and saw...scales? By this point I was absolutely intrigued. I cupped my hands to get some water from a puddle that had formed nearby (it was still raining quite a lot), and dumped it on top of the whatever-it-was. The mud melted away, and more silvery scales emerged.

Whatever this was, I decided that I wanted it. I dumped handful after handful of puddle water on top of it, trying to figure out how big it was so I could dig it out. The dirt had been thoroughly packed down by many wheels and feet, but as mud it was relatively easy to dig through. My hands became caked with mud, then rinsed in the puddle, then muddied again as I dug, thunder crackling and rumbling and rolling around me all the while.

I hadn't failed to notice the thing's shape as I dug around it, my hands squelching in the mud, but as I pulled it out of the hole in the ground and rinsed it off, it became truly apparent that it was an egg of some sort. Considering the size, it was most likely a decorative egg; and considering the solid weight of it and the smooth details, it wasn't a cheap one...but then, what the heck was it doing buried under what used to be an empty field? I found my thoughts wandering (nothing unusual about that, to be honest) and my eyes and fingers admiring the trail of silver scales, flanked by bright blue gems that twisted around the egg. The surface of the egg seemed to be a rich brown, with odd grey spots here and there.

My stomach grumbled in tandem with the storm, distracting me from my admiration of this incredible find. I must have been sitting there digging for half an hour or so. My mouth certainly agreed with my stomach that dinner time was near. I held the egg carefully in both hands - it settled comfortably and didn't give me any trouble the entire way home - and began walking away from the hole I had removed it from. Despite being soaked by rain, I felt warmth seeping through my body, seemingly coming from the thing in my hands. How odd, I thought calmly, but deep in my soul I was thrilled. I knew this egg was something special. I knew it was the thing I had been waiting to find. The rain lightened up, and the sky happily continued rumbling above my head."

and I'll let'cha in on a secret! .... all the adoptables 'crack' a number of times equal to their complexity rating. :3

since this fellow is a complexity rating of 4 stars (outta five) this is his 'fourth' cracking sequence. ... following?

He should be hatched in another week or so.

Wheee. It's a bit longer than the others. I think I got a little carried away (particularly since the first 2 paragraphs and part of the 3rd are absolutely true - hooray for real-life inspiration! XD) but I think it turned out good. I hope you enjoy reading it, and I am so looking forward to seeing what this'll be when it hatches. X3

Also I must thank you for making one especially for me. You make it sound like I do more than just write stories for these.

Very very cool! fun to read like yours tend to be! and longer stories are just fine.

You're very welcome! and you HAVE done more than just write stories! Or were you not the one to donate a DA subscription for me when I wanted one for these adoptables? I really do appreciate it! Your enthusiasm inspires me to work harder on this project! ^_^
