Description
This is a Commission peice for ~seru-crescent . The request was for me to do a full color image of "Genesis Rhapsodos" from Final Fantasy 7, complete with his Wing and his Sword "Rapier".The lineart for this Commission was originally drawn on a 4x6 Index Card, but since I was taking my time on it, and due to an unforseen rapid degradation of one of my ink pens, I ended up scanning it for cleanup, and as an apology for reprinting the lineart before completion, I printed it on full 8.5x11 Cardstock.
This image is "TECHNICALLY" not finished, but ~seru-crescent liked the sword so much 'as-is' (as in before I added the red to the center of the blade.) that she asked me to post a version now, before I finish it off.
Considering this is the first time I have EVER drawn Genesis Rhapsodos, I am very VERY happy with how it turned out. ^_^ (I do have to say though, I hate his wanna-be basket-hilt thingy.
evil thing that it is... )EDIT: Forgot to mention... this was colored by hand using Copic markers. ^_^ a portion of the commission payment actually went to 4 new markers to get his hair "just right".

I see your predicament, as i really like Sephiroth, Vincent,Β Lightning, Fang, RenoΒ and AerithΒ as wellΒ but, there's just something about Genesis thats so badass (and he's pretty good looking, haha!)

... I do tend to lean towards Squall Leonhart or Laguna Lior, I have a bit of a soft-spot for 'shy and awkward' heroes when it comes to the heroins.
if we're talking sheer awesomeness, I gotta pick Cecil, hands-down. He makes Sephiroth look like an amateur.

I've never really played the older games, but i'm wanting to, at some point i think i'll try them out. I started at 7 onwards, so i've missed quite a bit!
Yeah, i do like the shy awkward types, but sometimes the cocky, arrogant ones can be badass too but its a nice change for people to be humble about being a hero. (but i still love genesis,) even if he can be a douche!)
Cecil sounds awesome though! He must be quite good if he makes Sephiroth look like an amateur!

cecil starts out as a Dark Knight in the service of the badguys, ... he's your strongest melee fighter, dealing more damage than any but your black mage. but during the course of the game he has a change of heart and undergoes a quest to become a paladin. he goes from (approximately) a level 30 Dark Knight, ... to a level 1 paladin. and as a LEVEL 1 Paladin can out-damage the black mage with a single sword strike. it's pretty awesome-sauce.

hmmmm... well favorite to PLAY? ... probably Final Fantasy 7, the materia system is awesome.
favorite STORY, would probably be Final Fantasy 6... because,... seriously, Kefka (the villain) actually DOES what Sephiroth only TRIES to do .... destroys the world and becomes the god of Magic. also, single biggest world to explore by far.
Favorite character designs, would probably be Final Fantasy 8, very sleek and complex, subtle background and storytelling instead of blatant. Takes more ATTENTION to know what's happening, and probably has more character progression than the others I've played. (except MAYBE Cecil in 4...)

I agree! FF7 and crisis core are the best to play, dunno why i just love CC story too, (nothing to do with Genesis or anything...*shifty eyes*
I NEED to play the previous games! SERIOUSLY...i am going to have a total FF marathon of sorts in the summer holidays, argh! i will never see the light of day again!

FF8 did look good, i kinda skipped to 13 for some reason...? i dunno, havent played it in a while and my friend still has it, haha!
Yeah, i think, as the games went on, the stories progressed better AND! They actually spoke after a while, i have problems with characters that don't speak, non-speaking cutscenes in CC really annoyed me, i dunno why!!

Kefka was a piece of work... he was the villain you really LOATHED. .... Sephiroth you maybe felt a bit sorry for, and maybe thought he was cool. Kefka you just wanted to take down. ... preferably painfully. XD he was so ... evil and sadistic, but also avoided direct confrontation often enough to be frustrating.

Argh! that does sound annoying, i hate villians that can't face you directly and actually fight!
Yeah, i did feel sorry for Sephiroth, despite all his evilness, he kinda had a reason i guess (not a great one) on top of that he went a bit loony too. Soo, i supose he was a good villian in way of making him more human and you actually felt sorry for him instead of just completly hating him as some villians are seen as.
It's always good to have that one that everyone hates of course or you wouldn't want to kill them!

Cool a really like the detail on his sword. Genisis is definately an interesting charcter (and very cool). His deja vu moment was when he battled Sephiroth in trailing ground 49 with angeal...that was back when Seph was still good, *sigh*. Anyway great work!
Just one question....does Genisi have a wing like Seph for real or is it just a symbol? Unfortunately I only ever get to see occational clips on the internet. So a little background might help. and just one more tiny tiny thing...what are Copic markers. I might find them useful as I hate using watercolour or pencil (digital too) but the seem to be my only methods of colouring. Thankyou.

Genesis and Angeal both have a wing. ... Genesis has a rather long and thin black one on his left-hand side. Angeal has a white one (with a smaller white one under it.) on his right-hand side. Sephiroth has a single large black wing on his right-hand side.
Copics are a Japanese-brand of "Manga-Coloring" Markers and Ink-Pens. They're rather expensive, but I love the results. ^_^ -> [link] <-

Angeal and Genesis were created at the same time, but they're a little behind Seph, ... Sephiroth was 'created' by a rival scientist.
Genesis and Angeal were tweaked by "Hollander" and Sephiroth done by "Hojo".
