I envy you the shot, here in Poland we still have winter, like real one and it's almost the end of March, a few days after calendar spring :/

i talked to my family in sweden this morning, and it's the same there... my sister-in-law was almost in tears because she was so sick of the cold and the snow

In Poland it is said that during the past few months we had the smallest amount of sunlight since few dozen years O.o In the nearest future we may end up with only two seasons - sth like winter and summer
There's a polish folk tradition that on the first day of calenndar spring, people take a trip to the nearest river, lake, pond etc. with a straw puppet dressed up like the lady winter. They set the puppet on fire and throw it to the water as a symbol of chasing away the bad winter. This year the tradition couln'd be executed because all water reservoirs were frozen
...spring

it's not a good sign when winter prevents you from symbolically chasing the damn thing away
here, have some of our sunshine... we have plenty of it

seriously? that's this year's capture? oh, come on... and I froze to death today standing in snow and fighting for that half-tree-photo

btw... you had some beautiful light out there and some lovely pinks and I of course love the final outcome

yup, that was last week i went to a park yesterday where they have more (and bigger!) magnolia trees and it was like an explosion of colors
i'm actually a little bit jealous of you northern european people... i know the winters are long and cruel, but the joy of spring arriving is unbeatable. here it's just "meh... the magnolias are in bloom" and two weeks later it's all over

it always sounds so charmy when you don't live at a given place. everything is different, than in your own climate and you're a little bit jealous (like I am with the magnolia stuff ). for us it's just like "when will dis damn snow stop falling, eh?".

on the other hand, I'm the kind of person who doesn't suffer from autumn/winter depression, but from spring depression. I like it when days are short and the world is still dark when I arrive at work and when I leave that doesn't mean I'm not fed up with the cold right now we see some light after leaving work and, when this snow melts eventually, we will also notice garbage and mud and dog poo and stuff like that. all that is first covered with white snow, will later come out to the daylight

haha, i'm exactly like that too; they call it reversed S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder).
people with SAD get their symptoms in the fall and it lasts through the winter.
mine (and yours i guess ) is exactly the opposite:
we start feeling the signs in the early spring, and they last (for me at least) all through the summer, and end in the fall (and as i may have mentioned to you before, the summers are LONG here, from late april to early november).
i was born and raised in sweden and i miss the darkness there, but i also miss the light (and very, very short!) summers... probably because of the climate here, which i will never get used to.
ha, there's a swedish saying that roughly translated goes: what is hidden in snow, will be revealed in thaw (it sounds better in swedish because it rhymes )
i still to this day remember the yucky smell of frozen dog poop melting in the spring

yes, that's exactly how it is with me. I hate summer light and heat I mean, it's nice for taking photos and so on, but I would rather fall into summer sleep and wake up when it's possible to see and breath again without headaches...

I see your point. I remember times when in Poland summer temperature was around 30 degrees in sun. right now it's up to 50 totally not healthy. and people start smelling very badly...

and, like you said, it just started melting. just watch where you put your feet and try not to ...

you on the east coast? i feel ya, i grew up in sweden where the winters are long and hard and dark and spring and summer lasts for about a total of 3 months, then it's straight back into 8 months of darkness... which i actually didn't mind, i love rain and cold weather... not a huge fan of snow though

vikingjon In reply to JillAuville [2013-02-23 07:11:49 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Delaware. It is slowly getting warmer but we were still down to 24 F last night. I've heard that about Sweden. I think I wouldn't mind so much either, but I do like the variation we get here. If it is going to be cold I like it to snow, but then I don't have to travel much at the moment.

JillAuville In reply to vikingjon [2013-02-23 18:13:23 +0000 UTC]

and that's what i DON'T like about california: the lack of variation.
yeah, spring is nice... but it lasts for a couple of weeks tops and then BOOM it's summer and 90 degree heat that lasts until the end of october, sometimes longer. then we have the beautiful fall for a month, then "winter" which is basically the same as fall but without the pretty leaves and then the magnolias start blooming and february and by april it is hell again (i HATE heat!)

Yes, I love when people try to tell me how great the weather is in CA! Well, I'm glad you got a little bit of spring.
