Description
I see a lot of these things conflated a lot, which I'm really sick of. Yes, some (or all) of these things do overlap a lot & may be deeply intertwined for some people, but it's not like that for everyone. There is a distinction between each one of these things. None of them are mutually exclusive so you can have just one of them without any of the others.Unfortunately I kind of got stuck with just:
Sexuality =/= passion/love/romance/affection/desire
but I also really wanted to add:
Passion =/= sexuality/love/romance/affection/desire
Love =/= sexuality/passion/romance/affection/desire
Romance =/= sexuality/passion/love/affection/desire
Affection =/= sexuality/passion/love/romance/desire
Desire =/= sexuality/passion/love/romance/affection
(I used Free Online Image Editor for this so if someone can help me out with how to add to the animation without driving me nuts I'd really appreciate it)
I was thinking about throwing in attraction but that would just start getting really confusing & nitpicky (I think I kind of milked it with desire as it is). I'm not going to compare everything little thing because I don't have that kind of patience but I'll break down each term (at least as how I see it) if you're confused...
Sexuality - used broadly, describes one's sexual functioning, sexual behavior or who/what you're sexually attracted to
Passion - any intense, compelling feeling or emotions
Romance - the distinctive core feelings of infatuation or gestures relating to it
Love - the desire of wanting what's best for someone, even if it meant sacrifice on your part, with no thought or hope the favor being returned
Affection - strong feelings of closeness & acceptance toward someone
Desire - some kind of craving for someone/something
Hopefully I'll actually submit things soon that don't relate to this kind of stuff.

Not necessarily. Sex can be combined with any of these things, it just doesn't have to be.

This actually makes sense. As a demiromantic asexual, I frequently have to try to explain how I can not want sex but still have a romantic interest in someone.
