Description Me sketching the outline using a Ruled Grid approach. Notice the tools. that thing that looks like a stuffed sock is a dry cleaning eraser... It keeps your work area clean and smudge free... A drawing board is essential as well as a ruler. Here I happen to have the image I want to draw open in PSP7 with the grid turned on and set to 1"x1" and set the canvas size to my paper size 14"x17". next I make little tiny dots or "Tick marks" around the edge of my bristol board every 1". Next I use a long straight edge and with a DARK! pencil like 6b-9b super sharp(use sandpaper pad) I LIGHTLY very very LIGHTLY drag the tip along the straight edge making a thin light line that erases very easy with out leaving a groove in the paper...VERY IMPORTIANT!
Later I will talk about embossing the paper with a hard lead to achieve a textured effect. but for now use a dark 4b+ pencil to sketch what tou see in each little square. Personally I use a ruler and accurately measure to the neasest 1/32" from each grid line vertically and horizontally each point where a major feature line crosses the grid. Then I sketch from point to point playing "connect the dotts". After i have what appears to be a hairy catterpiller crawling on my paper, i get out the eraser and start fine tunning and erasing the line untill i i have all of the curves smooth and tangent to oneanother .
